New Flock

Last week we welcomed a new flock of weaned lambs to our Ag Farm. Year 9 and 10 Agriculture students spent the morning introducing the twenty-five lambs to their new surroundings. Welfare health checks were performed, weights and tags were recorded, and gates were secured. The green grass on the oval certainly looked inviting to hungry lambs.

This hands-on learning experience provides our students with invaluable practical skills in animal husbandry and sheep production processes. The flock will be monitored and nurtured in preparation for sale in a few terms. If all goes well, the students will be able to trade up to the Aussie Whites breed and commence the production cycle again.

Capturing Nature

Wagga Wagga Christian College Photography & Digital Media students recently stepped beyond the walls of the classroom and into the vibrant natural setting of the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens to strengthen their practical photography skills. The excursion provided students with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world environment while exploring the art of landscape, animal, and nature photography.

Students practised operating DSLR cameras independently, focusing on essential technical skills such as aperture control, shutter speed adjustments, ISO settings, and manual focus techniques. Working outdoors allowed students to observe how natural lighting changes throughout the day and how this influences exposure, shadows, and colour balance. Students were encouraged to slow down, observe their surroundings carefully, and consider the composition of their images.

Whilst the excursion strengthens practical photography skills it also promoted creative confidence. Moving outside the traditional classroom environment encouraged students to think independently, take artistic risks, and draw inspiration from nature.

Overall, the experience provided meaningful hands-on learning while fostering creativity, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation for photography as both a technical and expressive art form.

Assemblage Art

Assemblage art is an art approach where a three-dimensional artwork is constructed using everyday materials or objects, like cardboard, commercial products and pieces of junk. Lead by artists like Marcel Duchamp with Ready-Mades and Australian artist Rosalie Gascoigne with Assemblages, this art style looks to reinvent the mundane and overlooked.

Our Year 9/10 Visual Art students tried their hand at the approach after studying Louise Nevelson and her assemblages, using materials like cardboard, tape, string and glue to create their own Assemblage art.
