Secondary School News
Each fortnight, our Secondary School (teachers and students) meet for Assembly. During this time, we sing worship songs together, hear from different staff or visiting speakers about the Bible or their faith walk, and celebrate student achievements. Mixed in with that are some activities, games, and general notices.
Last week we shared our first time together, as our Swimming Carnival was on during the previous timeslot. Our staff joined with the student Worship Band to lead us in singing, and we heard from several staff about key points and people in their faith journey.
Students also memorised John 14:6, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ Thank you to the student Ministry Team and the staff for helping this be a significant part of the school cycle.
A vital ‘preventive’ factor in helping our young people become resilient is to develop friendships across multiple social groups. This is something for all of us to encourage. These connections can be through family, church groups, friends at school, sports, clubs and co-curricular activities. One of the opportunities at the College is for students to join one of the Student Leadership Teams. The recent Student Leadership Expo gave students a chance to sign up for one of the teams. Over the coming weeks, these groups will organise their first meetings and activities. Students who are interested in these groups should speak with members of the College Student Leadership Team.
Our recent Information Sessions for Year 11 and Year 10 were well attended by students and parents. Key information about wellbeing, assessment, and expectations was presented. Thank you to the staff who have worked hard to prepare for these sessions. If you have any questions, please contact us so that we can help.
Students have been going through the Student Code of Conduct in the past few weeks. This is found in the College diary. We encourage families to support students with the positive ‘DO’ behaviours that make the College a great place to learn, and to be aware of the potential consequences for ‘DO NOT’ behaviours. Two potential consequences are Formal Detentions and After School Detentions. These may be issued for repeated behaviours at the Minor level, or for Moderate level behaviours.
At these detentions, students will engage in conversations with staff to encourage reflection on their behaviour and what needs to be done differently. We also encourage you to have open communication about expectations and behaviours at school. Our goal is to help each of our students keep growing as young adults who demonstrate character and responsibility and make positive changes to behaviour.
Open Night is this Thursday from 4:00pm to 6:30pm. We would love to see you there and many of our students are serving during the evening. If you know families who would benefit from being at our school, please highlight this opportunity to them.
Current Year 6 students from our College and across the Riverina are invited to attend the Year 7 Taster Day on Thursday 19th March. Students will experience three different classes and have an opportunity to meet key staff. External students can register via the College website: Year 7 Taster Day - Wagga Wagga Christian College
A brief Year 7 2027 Information Session will be held at 5:15pm in the TLA on Thursday 19 March for families new to our school or new to Secondary School; however, all families with children entering Year 7 in 2027 are welcome to attend.
I will also be meeting with each College Year 6 student and their family to support their transition to Secondary School. Meeting times with me will be available at our Parent Teacher Interviews later in the term. Further details will be provided closer to the time.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you would like to connect. My email is g.xeros@wwcc.nsw.edu.au or contact the College office to arrange a time if you would like to meet in person.

Rotary Peace Day
Our College Captains, Isabelle and Cadel, and College Vice-Captains, Sarah and Sarah, represented the College at the Rotary Peace Day Ceremony held on Sunday 22 February. Wagga Wagga was the first 'peace city' formed in 1993, with the goal of fostering a positive approach to peace, resolving conflict, and building harmonious communities, (see Peace Communities — Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga).
Public recognition of local organisations and individuals for their contributions is made at the ceremony. Schools are invited to receive awards for their service contributions both in and out of school.
Our College was one of the two schools selected to give a speech at the ceremony this year, saying: "Our College values of kindness, integrity, respect and diligence guide our actions, and they strongly align with the Rotary Peace Credo and its vision for a more just and compassionate world."
Isabelle and Cadel also spoke about a recent College survey about student involvement in volunteering, which highlighted that nearly 70% of our students have engaged in some form of voluntary service over the past year, including "environmental activities, charity or fundraising events, sports or coaching, arts, music or cultural events, school-based service projects, church communities and helping others by cooking or mowing lawns".
This is encouraging, and we continue to seek ways for our students to value the impact that service has in our community.
Member for Wagga Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr commented that "peace takes effort", recognising that with inaction, communities become fragmented and lose harmony.
2026 is the Year of Volunteering - perhaps this is something that all of us can consider over the coming year - how can we serve others and make a difference.

Leaders Become Ambassadors for Wagga
The Committee for Wagga holds a School Leaders Program each year, for which each school nominates three students to attend. Students must submit applications prior to selection.
The Program’s objective is to develop young, aspiring high school students into positive, successful ambassadors for the city. Students participating in the program attend seven modules over 7 days across the course of the year, with each module of the curriculum designed to achieve different learning outcomes. This year, the three students representing the College are Ella, Shaianne and Hugh. They have recently completed the introduction to the course and are looking forward to the first module later this term.
We wish them all the best as they complete this exciting and rewarding program.
CANVAS for Secondary School Students and Families
All Secondary School students use Canvas as their Learning Management System. It is set up with courses for each subject studied, and contains information from teachers regarding lessons, coursework, homework and assessment tasks. As parents / caregivers you can become ‘Observers’ of these courses and support your child in their learning. If you haven’t already become an Observer, the following link will take you to the instructions on the College website:
As Secondary School staff, we are working to provide more structure across these courses, so you will see changes happen in the next few weeks and months. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s subject teacher if you have any specific questions about what they are learning.
Opportunity for Secondary School Students - Theological Course
We are excited to explore offering the Moore College Preliminary Theological Certificate (PTC) course at Wagga Wagga Christian College. The College was founded on the vision of families in Wagga wanting to provide children with a uniquely Christ-focused education.
The PTC course would be a meaningful extension of this mission — a welcoming and supportive opportunity for students who would like to grow in their understanding of Scripture. It offers a solid introduction to the Bible, helping students see the connections between the Old and New Testaments and engaging thoughtfully with God’s revelation to humanity.
At this stage, we are simply seeking to gauge student interest. If your child may be interested in participating, I warmly invite them to speak with me so that I can record their interest. We are currently considering offering the course after school, possibly on Wednesday afternoons. It would be wonderful to hear from those who are interested.
Please encourage your child to speak to me in person or email me. Otherwise, please feel free to email me at a.smith@wwcc.nsw.edu.au or contact the College office.
