Teaching and Learning Update

New ARPS Instructional Model

We are excited to introduce our new ARPS Instructional Model, which will guide teaching and learning across our school.

The ARPS Instructional Model has been carefully developed to align with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0), as well as Departmental and whole-school priorities. This ensures our teaching practices are grounded in current research and reflect our shared commitment to high-quality learning for every student.

An important part of developing the model was feedback from our teachers. They shared insights from their teaching practice, which led to a redesigned model that is circular rather than linear. This circular design highlights that effective teaching is not a one-way process. Instead, it emphasises the need for teachers to be adaptive and responsive, continually adjusting their practice based on student learning and an explicit focus on responsive teaching.

The cyclic nature of the model shows the ongoing movement between the different elements of teaching and learning. Teachers move flexibly between these elements, using assessment, feedback and observation to inform what comes next, rather than following a fixed sequence.

To support consistency and understanding across the school:

  • the ARPS Instructional Model is on display in all learning spaces

  • students will be introduced to the model and supported to understand which phase of the lesson they are working in

This shared language helps students to better understand their learning, what is expected of them, and how different parts of a lesson fit together.

We look forward to sharing more about the ARPS Instructional Model and how it supports strong teaching and learning across our school community.
