WEEK 1 ROUND-UP:
What a fantastic start to the year our students have made! Seeing our new Year 7 students settle in so confidently has been wonderful, embracing their orientation week enthusiastically and making the most of every opportunity. We look forward to continued success across the term!
WEEK 2: UNIFORM SCHEDULE
PASTORAL GROUP MENTORS:
This year, our Year 7 students are fortunate to be supported by an enthusiastic team of Pastoral Mentors, each bringing unique personalities and experience to the role. Your child's Pastoral Mentor will be your first point of contact in most areas of school life, and regular communication between home and school helps keep the students supported and accountable. Please see the table below, which provides contact details for each Pastoral Mentor.
YEAR 7 FORMATION DAY - WEDNESDAY, 5 FEBRUARY:
Next Wednesday, our Year 7 students will participate in their Formation Day. Students should wear their House uniform for this special event. The day will focus on welcoming our newest community members, deepening their understanding of the St Mary's Way, and fostering our school culture through engaging activities.
WELCOME MASS & MORNING TEA:
Invitations to our traditional Welcome Mass and Morning Tea were sent to all Year 7 families during the week. This special occasion marks the official welcome of our new Year 7 students and the commissioning of Senior Student Leaders for the 2025 academic year. All Year 7 families are strongly encouraged to attend this milestone event!

YEAR 7 WELCOME EVENING:
Week 5, Thursday, 27 February, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Parents and Carers are warmly invited to join us for canapés at the Year 7 Welcome Evening. This event provides a fantastic opportunity to learn more about what lies ahead for Year 7 students in 2025. Following addresses from Principal Kerry Manders, Assistant Principal – Junior Secondary Leah McBryde, and Head of Year 7 Narelle Brooke, families will have the chance to meet their child's Pastoral Mentor and connect with other new families in our College community.

It has been fantastic welcoming new students to our College and taking the time to reconnect with old faces in the first week of school. At assembly this week we saw that, whilst our students have a myriad of talents and interests, the one thing that unites us is that we are all on the one team here at St Mary’s. We look forward to the year ahead in learning for all students at St Mary's!
Next week, we will welcome some familiar faces back to the College to recognise their Academic Achievements in 2024. We look forward to celebrating the Academic success of all students in 2024 at our Academic Assembly on Tuesday. ALL STUDENTS are to wear their FORMAL uniform and bring their sports for any HPE classes or Sports.

Assistant Principal - Junior Secondary
(Years 7 to 9)
COLLEGE DIARY:
At St Mary's, from Year 7, the College Diary is used as an essential communication tool between teachers and parents/carers. Please use the diary to record homework concerns or uniform notes, as your child's Pastoral Mentor checks these first thing each morning. While we welcome email communication, uniform and homework notes are best recorded in the diary to ensure immediate attention at the start of the school day.
LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY:
If your child needs to leave school early, we ask that a parent or guardian collect them from the front office. To maintain our duty of care, students are not permitted to be collected from the front of the school or Bakery car park.
COLLEGE SCHOOL BAGS:
Please note that the new compulsory school bags do NOT have a built-in rain cover. While our bags are shower-proof, they may become wet on the inside during heavy rain. Rain covers can be purchased at the Uniform Shop for $15.
UNIFORM & PERSONAL GROOMING:
This week, uniform and personal grooming expectations must be met. If students do not meet these expectations, jewellery will be confiscated to be collected from the student restorative room at the end of the day.

When students finish school on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., the College Library is available for supervision to complete homework or additional schoolwork from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Students are ONLY to be in the library or waiting at the front of the College during this time. Students who choose to depart the College during this time will not be permitted back on the College grounds (this includes visiting McDonald's or friends' homes).
St Mary's Catholic College welcomes employment applications from those who share our mission to provide a stimulating and challenging curriculum and enhance students' dignity, self-esteem, and integrity.
