                                                                                                   Welcome to Year 5!

We are delighted to share that the start of the year has been very calm, with students embracing the routine and rigor of Year 5. The success of this smooth transition is largely due to the new setup program introduced last year. Students spent three days of the 2024 school year in their 2025 class with their 2025 teacher. This, combined with strong family support and students coming in eager and ready to learn, has set a positive tone for the year.

Getting to Know Each Other

During the first week, we focused on getting to know each other and establishing routines and expectations. It was wonderful to see students reconnect with old friends and make new ones. They also happily participated in various activities, setting a great foundation for the year ahead.

Mathematics

In Week 2, our Mathematics lessons centred around the concept of length. Students learned about estimating, measuring, and ordering the length, height, and width of objects. Their enthusiasm and engagement were truly commendable.

English

Our English block has been equally exciting. We examined and engaged with persuasive texts, focusing on identifying the main idea and supporting details. During our phonics, spelling, and word knowledge sessions, we explored the long 'a' sound. Additionally, we worked on sentence structure, learning about simple and compound sentences.

Humanities

In Humanities, we discussed the importance of keeping ourselves healthy through diet, hydration, mindfulness, and sleep. Students eagerly participated in all aspects of these lessons, showing a keen interest in maintaining their well-being.

Looking Ahead

All the Year 5 teachers are excited for the year ahead. If families have any concerns or comments, they are encouraged to contact their child's classroom teacher.

We look forward to seeing all our families at our 'Meet the Teacher in the Classroom' afternoon on Tuesday 11th Feb.
