The Art & Technology 2019 Exhibition – Visual Arts Excellence Award

The 2019 St. Peter’s College Art & Technology Exhibition is an exciting example 21st Century Teaching and Learning which coincides with the criteria our Visual Arts Excellence Awards are based on. From Year 7 students, are encouraged to show their individual style, their creativity is supported by skills and techniques taught in the classroom.

A wonderful example of this is our 2019 Leader of The Arts, Mikayla Van Der Velden who has just completed Year 12 studies in both the Visual and Performing Arts.

Mikayla has used her passion for the arts to encourage like- minded students to participate in St. Peter’s College Arts Collective this year, which is part of the success of the our 2019 exhibition.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mikayla for her vision and hard work in her leadership role this year, you have left a legacy for other students to continue within The Arts Collective.

When students feel they have voice, when they can express how they feel, they shine. The Visual Arts play a big part in student expression, through diversity, innovation and creativity and this was evident in the work we see in our exhibition.

Three installation pieces by Phoebe Takla, Elisabeth Polan and Mikayla were on display for students, family and friends to participate in which provided an interesting focus to the exhibition. The Visual Arts team hope that students from year 7 – 10 are inspired by the VCE work in the exhibition and are encouraged to further their studies in the Visual Arts.

Congratulations to Phoebe Takla who was the recipient of the 2019 Principals Art Prize for her installation piece ‘Seasons 2’.
