Now is the Time!

Year 10 and 11 Examinations

During years 7- 9 students undertake formative and summative assessment throughout the year. They experience “assessment for Learning”. In Years 10 and 11 it is time to prepare for the rigours of formal VCE examinations and students undertake Assessment of Learning via examinations.  These exams are designed to mirror in large part the expectations of the final Year 12 examinations and provide students with a realistic opportunity to practice their exam techniques. Now is the time to commence revision for upcoming exams. Students should set aside regular blocks of time and allocate revision to each of their subjects. Chapter summaries, revision questions and pneumonic memory joggers should be developed over these next few weeks before exams.

 How can parents help?

  • Ask students to create FLASH Cards. Revision occurs through composition of flash cards. Once made – quiz students about key vocabulary, terms or definitions.
  • Ensure a quiet space for your son or daughter is available for undisturbed study time
  • Ask questions about content - read the novel and ask questions about the themes or characters.
  • Ensure a healthy balanced lifestyle with physical activity, healthy food and relaxation in balance with a regular study routine.
  • Help your son or daughter to write up their study routine – ensure it is realistic and practical.

Sometimes even after thorough preparation students experience mental blanks during exam time. Enclosed are some Tips to ensure the best possible result in the upcoming examination period.
