From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends
Someone once coined the phrase, “it’s been a big week in football”. Based on the events of this week and into next, it would be appropriate to adjust that to read, “it’s been a big week at St. Peter’s College”.
Year 12 Liturgy and Expectations
On Monday I was privileged to attend the final Year 12 Liturgy. In it students were asked to reflect on their memorable moments. There was also an opportunity to share their gratitudes for the support they have received. Many spoke of the staff at St. Peter’s College and their contribution in shaping who they are today. It was a moving ceremony ahead of the final celebrations to be witnessed next week.
Speaking of the Year 12 celebrations, Year 12's were briefed on these this week. I talked to the Year 12's of the importance of leaving a legacy, of the importance of finishing off their schooling in a positive and respectful way. It is important that this same message is sent to the whole of the school community. It is the Year 12's celebration and the rest of the school community are required to respect that. It is also important that I reiterate the expectations surrounding the final celebrations and the consequences of non-adherence to these.
All Year 12 students have been briefed of the following non-negotiables:
- all will respect other persons and property at all times and that nobody comes to school or a school event affected by alcohol.
Those who cannot live up to that expectation would find themselves with all or some of the following consequences:
- unable to sit their exams at St. Peter’s College.
- unable to attend community celebrations like the valedictory dinner and graduation mass
- other consequences if necessary.
Sometimes this is required when somebody’s actions say to us that they don’t respect this community and don’t value what this community stands for. Having said that I have every confidence that students will be respectful and will follow these simple expectations. For Year 12 parents I extend another invitation to attend our celebratory assemblies.
Art & Technology Exhibition – Cranbourne Campus
The Cranbourne Campus held their Art & Technology Exhibition on Monday evening. Congratulations to both staff and students for the quality of pieces being exhibited. My thanks in particular is expressed to both Ms Pam Fox (Arts Coach) and Mr Calen Robinson (Technology Coach) for their leadership. There was a strong turnout of parents and friends which added greatly to the night. Congratulations to the recipients of the Principal’s Prize for Art and Technology.
In the Art category the award winner is: Phoebe Takla in a piece titled: Seasons – Part 2. Phoebe has used the scriptural passage from Isaiah 64:8 where it states: “But now, O Lord, You are the Father; we are the clay and you our potter; and all we are the work of your hand”. It is a wonderful scriptural text that speaks to us of being moulded and remoulded in the image of God with all our flaws and insecurities. Phoebe herself uses the following words in describing the piece, she states, “God is consistently shaping and refining my character. Like clay he continues to mould me to be more like him, From the outside perspective she says, it may not always be apparent, but God is working in detail within me”.
The Technology category winner is Miguel Soliman for his Bar Stool. Mr Simon Gardiner his teacher stated: “As can be seen by the finished product and the accompanying folio, Miguel successfully met all of the required criteria in the brief by carefully following the Product Design Process. From his detailed research to his beautiful drawings. From his prototypes to joining many pieces of timber for the seat. From using a pre-existing chair mechanism to making moulds for the bent timber backing. From working on the timber lathe to the carefully sanded and varnished final piece. Just outstanding. Congratulations Phoebe and Miguel.
VCAL Presentation Night – Cranbourne and Clyde North
We were treated to two special nights, back to back as the Year 12 VCAL classes presented their year’s work to family, peers and teachers. They were outstanding evenings which show-cased the student’s learnings. It was special to be a part of it and to be witness to the growth in these students, particularly in being able to confidently present to an audience. This was their final assessment piece ahead of moving out into the workplace or further training. The VCAL program is a real success story for St. Peter’s College and one to celebrate. The data suggests that our program prepares students with the skills to confidently take that next step down their future pathway as the vast majority leave with a secured pathway.

Year 7 2020 Parent Information Evening – Cranbourne Campus
Our current Year 12's have not even left us and we are welcoming our new intake of Year 7's for 2020. Such is the cyclic nature of schooling. It was great to see the fresh eager faces of students and parents as they began the process of transition. This is the second year of running this night, the success of this structure can be felt with the smooth transition of students this year. We look forward to welcoming students on Orientation day later this term. The Clyde North Information evening is to be held on Tuesday, 29 October 2019.
Official Opening - Friday, 25 October 2019
The official opening of the Francis Building, housing the Year 9 Learning Centre, the Administration Building and the Cross Installation at the Clyde North Campus is taking place this coming Friday at 1.30pm in the Piazza. Parents are most welcome.
High Achieving students
Congratulations to the following two students for their achievements in vastly different fields:
Rhiannon Elsworth – Figure Skating
Rhiannon skated over the weekend achieving her PB score for the season in Intermediate Ladies placing 3rd at The Victorian Championships. Now she has her heart set on Nationals in December at The O’Brien Icehouse Arena in Melbourne. Rhiannon has been skating for 9 years competing all around Australia and has trained in the UK over the time.
Georgia Davies – Exchange
Towards the end of Term 3, Georgia Davies (Year 10, AUC) spent a fortnight studying in a private school in Hawaii. This excellent opportunity for Georgia to experience studying abroad was all the more impressive as she organised the whole experience herself. Her great initiative resulted in a very exciting trip. Georgia offered the following insight into her experience of studying abroad:
"After emailing what seemed to be every school on Oahu, I managed to independently organise a school placement at Le Jardin Academy, a private school located in Kailua, Hawaii (approximately one hour north-east of Waikiki). I spent two weeks surrounded by wonderful students, supportive teachers and the most breathtaking scenery. I participated in a variety of international classes, clubs and activities. I learnt many things, especially the necessity of sunscreen.
I was lucky enough to have been paired with a year 11 student at the academy named Melia. After accompanying Melia to each of her classes, being photographed for the yearbook together and learning more about each other’s culture, I had made a life-long friendship filled with fantastic memories. My time at Le Jardin Academy flew by, two weeks felt like two days. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I was given by all staff and students at the academy and look forward to participating in the student transfer again soon."

Congratulations Georgia.
Enjoy the week ahead.
