Learning from Home

from End of Term Newsletter

Learning from Home/ Remote Learning

A big thank you to our families who have sent messages to thank the staff for the work on our website, to support learning at home across this week. I would now encourage you to take holidays and a break from 'school learning' although the website will continue to be available. The staff have been busy planning and preparing lessons for at home learning when we return for Term 2 on Wednesday 15th April (with Tuesday 14th April a Curriculum Day/Pupil Free Day.)

Kinder:

We will be using the Seesaw application to deliver teaching and learning. Teachers will 'check in' with families on a regular basis and provide learning opportunities for home. Communication will come through the MailChimp emails, teacher emails, school newsletter and Instagram. All families will be sent log in information for Seesaw at the beginning of next term.

F-2:

We will be using the Seesaw application to deliver teaching and learning. Teachers will 'check in' with students daily and provide learning tasks to be completed at home. The aim will be to provide literacy activities that take a total of about 45-60 minutes, with 30-45 minutes allocated to each of numeracy, play-based learning and physical activity. The Specialist teachers have prepared a learning task to be completed each week also.

Communication will come through Seesaw, Sentral, school newsletter and Instagram. All families will be sent log in information for Seesaw on the curriculum day next term ready for the Wednesday.

3-6:

We will be using Google Classroom to deliver the teaching and learning program with Seesaw used for portfolio items. Teachers will 'check in' daily with students using Zoom for video conferencing/meet ups.

The aim will be to provide daily activities that focus on:

  • literacy for a total of 45-60 minutes
  • numeracy for 30-45 minutes
  • physical activities for 30 minutes

Communication will come through Seesaw, Sentral, school newsletter and Instagram and through Google Classroom and Zoom for students.

We are very mindful that this way of delivering our curriculum will have bumps along the road and when we start next term please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher through Sentral. We will be learning along the way. It is also important to remember not all schools will deliver remote learning in the same way, and that each school’s program is tailored to best meet their current local needs. We have prepared instruction sheets for both Seesaw, Google Classroom and Zoom that will be sent out on the first day of Term 2 as well as a weekly timetable. Staff will usually be available during the times of 9 -3.30. They will be preparing the next days tasks and meeting with their Learning Centre team to deliver the best possible learning experiences for students.

I am very impressed with how staff have worked together practising social distancing, using video conferencing, working from home and coming into school too. It has been a massive effort but one they have embraced. Its truly humbling to witness the 'can do' attitude and to see the quality of the programs they have put together. For those families who need hard copy packs of the online programs we will also make some of those available. They will be a direct copy of the Seesaw and Google Classroom tasks.
