5/6s Learning from Home

To parents / guardians of grade 5/6s,

Now that we have passed (with flying colours we might add) the first challenge of adapting to remote learning, we must begin the process of settling into the usual rigour of a school term.

We have established protocols and communications between home and school, so we can turn our attention to what we will cover across the curriculum this term.

In term 2, our literacy focus in reading is consolidating students’ understanding of the comprehension strategies of questions and questioning and, summarising and synthesising. In writing, students will continue to build on their skills, as they focus on the Conventions and Sentence Fluency traits.

In numeracy, we will be covering addition and subtraction strategies, coding, time, data, shape, angles and location. Students will be completing set tasks and submitting these through Google Classroom as well as scheduled time using Mathletics online to practise skills.

This term, our integrated unit is based around Biological Sciences and Geography with students investigating ‘How Do Living Things Change Places and Places Change Living Things?. The concepts of adaptation, environment and globalisation (just naming a few) will be explored through design and independent inquiry.

Please feel free to contact your child's classroom teacher via email should you have any questions.
