Concert - Roaring Rollins

Last week’s school concert, held at Geelong Baptist College, was an absolute triumph for our whole school community. This was our sixth school concert and it was possibly also our best. The hours of work put in to preparation certainly paid off and I’m sure that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performances. There was so much colour, so much variety and most importantly so much talent!

The children gain a lot from being able to participate in such an event. Performing on stage in front of a live audience does wonders for children’s confidence and wasn’t it great to see them so comfortable and happy up there?

Although we said thank-you to many people on the night, I would like to reinforce my appreciation. Our Concert Committee did an amazing job keeping us all on track. A very special thanks to Sharni De Jong for her comprehensive planning- an absolutely fantastic job. Congratulations and many thanks Sharni.

A special thanks to Mrs. Ramm for all the great work getting the choir and band to such a high level of expertise. During this term they have performed at a number of venues and the feedback has been absolutely fantastic. Well done Mrs. Ramm and the musicians.

Many thanks to Miss Womersley for the skipping performances- the children thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

Each year one of our parents, Steve Posterino (Rising Star Productions), devotes many hours to filming our concert. He devotes a day before the concert filming the students rehearsing, films the actual concert and then edits and compiles the DVD’s. We are so lucky to have such personnel in our parent community and we say a huge thank you to Steve for all his support.

Many thanks to our parent helpers, in particular Erin McGill and her band of helpers who work continuously to support our fundraising events.

Our parent community and extended families got behind the event with incredible levels of support and, most of all, our magnificent students threw themselves into the whole experience and provided us with a great night of entertainment. Thank you everyone! We hope you enjoyed the staff item- it took a lot to get us all organised!!! Thanks Monique Coventry and Jennah Sobevski for the choreography!

Good Luck

At the end of Term 3 we say farewell to one of our wonderful staff members. Ingrid Polwarth has been successful in obtaining a promotion position at the new school in Armstrong Creek. I know she will miss us all but won’t miss the many hours she spends in the car travelling back and forth to Rollins. Ingrid is well known in our school community for her helpful and professional approach in all areas of her work. On a personal note, I would like to thank her for the massive amount of support she has given me in the past few years- we will miss you heaps but wish you all the best in your new adventure.

2020 Placement

At Rollins, we work thoughtfully to build future class groupings. Teachers work together (literally for hours) forming classes for the coming year. They consider student learning styles, behaviour needs, student personalities, gender (even numbers of boys and girls) and many other factors to create classrooms where students will work well together and with their teacher. It is a complex process. Our goal is always to create the most balanced classes possible.

Parents are invited to advise us of any considerations that they would like us to take into account for student placement in 2020. If you would like to take this opportunity, I ask that you provide your thoughts in writing to me, no later than Monday 14th October 2019. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider requests after this date. Please note we cannot meet requests for specific teachers and, although we try our best to meet all requests, we cannot give guarantees.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

If for any reason your child will not be attending Rollins in 2020 please call the office to advise us. It is vitally important that we have accurate numbers of children attending next year so that we can start planning our classes and school organisation.

No Hat,No Play

We ask every child to wear their broad-brimmed hat to school during Term 4 to help protect them from the potentially harmful effects of UV rays. We have a ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy which requires children without a hat to stay indoors during breaks.  This is rarely necessary as most children understand the need for sun protection.

Please ensure your child’s hat is clearly marked with their name as all hats look the same and it can cause some confusion amongst students. We thank you for your co-operation with this request.

Principal's Pondering

A Growth Mindset message...

Research has explained a growth mindset as ‘a willingness to confront challenges, viewing failure as a springboard for growth, and a passion for learning. Not surprisingly, this type of mindset is strongly linked to greater happiness and achievement in life.’ Children who are happy, comfortable, safe and confident have a greater outcome with learning and socialising.

Here’s a child friendly video as made by one of our communication apps, Class Dojo, that explains it brilliantly. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ
