Literacy News

It is often hard to find time to focus on learning at home but it can be as simple as having a rich conversation! This article is designed to inspire some ways parents and carers can support their child/ren with literacy learning.  Speaking and Listening is a hugely important skill for children to develop, it builds their vocabulary, conversation skills, articulation, receptive and expressive language as well as their confidence. So try one of the ‘would you rather’ prompts, I am sure it will be as entertaining as it is educational. You could even make up some of your own!

Maths Olympiad Update

On Wednesday the students participating in the Maths Olympiad sat the third of five tests. The development in the strategies used by the students along with their persistence has been very pleasing. We have one student who has a combined score of 10 out of 15 for the three Olympiads, which is a fantastic effort. All of the students have achieved some success, however the main focus is developing their strategies and providing an opportunity for them to discuss their strategies, ideas and thoughts with their peers in a supportive and collegiate environment.

Some quotes from our Olympiad students:

Owen:  “I really enjoy the Maths Olympiad. It is challenging and encourages students to think about higher level problem solving strategies that they can use to solve the questions.”

Spencer: “I love the Maths Olympiad because it gives me an opportunity to learn higher level maths strategies. I enjoy being challenged in the Tests as the questions require a high level of mathematical knowledge.”
