Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week staff at the College were invited into reflection by a Franciscan priest Father Roger Lopez, OFM, via a franciscan website. Fr Lopez talks with great passion about how the disciples would have felt after Jesus' crucifixion. He describes them as being alone, scared and confused, huddled in a room trying to stay away from the rest of the world....sound familiar? It is into this space of fear and isolation that Jesus appears to them and Fr. Lopez asks us to consider the risen Jesus' first words to his disciples - "Peace be with you".  This superbly simple focus is one that has bought me back to where I need to be in many instances over the past few weeks. If we can focus on peace and the presence of Jesus in our lives, then we are bound to be able to use our faith to sustain us in these unsettled times. For those of you who wish to watch the discussion by Fr Lopez you can find it here:

Online learning commenced at Killester last week and, despite a few hiccups, we are absolutely delighted with how the term has started. All students have engaged with their teachers and have accessed the curriculum via our brand new website - KOOL; Killester Organised Online Learning.  Our homeroom teachers have started twice weekly Google Meets with homerooms - these are held 9:00am - 9:30am each Monday and Friday. VCE and VCAL students have one or two scheduled Google Meet tutorials per week with each of their subject teachers. These have commenced today for Year 12s and will start on Monday 27 April for Year 11s. Also commencing on April 27 is our exciting new passion project focus for Years 7 - 10. Mr Steve McPhail talks further about this in his 'Teaching and Learning' page of the newsletter.  A bulletin detailing all of the work being done with our online learning will be distributed to parents today via Edsmart. Also in this bulletin there will be an update on how students and families can access wellbeing support through the College wellbeing team.

Staff meet every Monday for briefing, we pray together and make sure that all important information is conveyed face to face. This is our briefing from this morning....although we are working very differently we remain committed to making sure we gather together and continue to work as a team to best support the young women of Killester.
