Prep - Grade 2

Welcome to 2021 Junior School families!

We hope you have all had a restful break and we are looking forward to an exciting and productive year ahead with many fun activities and events for the students to enjoy throughout the year.

Reminders:

Just a reminder to ensure your child’s items are all labelled; including hats, drink bottles, clothing, bags and lunchboxes.  If your child does lose their clothing items or lunch boxes, please check with their teacher or the item may have made its way into the lost property tub located next to the internal entrance of the OSHC room in the corridor.  At some stage over the next week or two, can each child please bring in an art smock, some headphones, a library bag and their take home book satchel (all labelled). These items may have already been brought into the  classroom from last year (Grade 1 and 2 students).

Check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure what is outstanding.  We look forward to seeing our grade 1 and grade 2 parents at the Getting to Know You Interviews on Monday the 8th and Tuesday 9th February and we also welcome our new families to come along to the Prep and New Families Social Night on Thursday February the 18th!

Prep students:

Due to  students missing out on a large part of their on-site kindergarten year last year, we have noticed many students requiring  support to further develop their fine motor skills and gross motor skills.  This is to be expected and the Prep program has incorporated many activities to support the students during the first part of the year.

However, it would be hugely beneficial if parents also supported their children by encouraging them to do activities to strengthen their fine motor skills (strengthening of hand and finger muscles and hand eye coordination), through drawing and colouring in and using scissors correctly to cut out pictures and drawings. To improve gross motor skills (whole body movement), it would be really helpful to take children to playgrounds, encourage them to ride their bikes or scooters and playing outside games in an unstructured manner.

Inquiry Units:

The Inquiry Unit for Term 1 in Prep is ‘My Family History’, students will be investigating their personal and family history and looking at differences and similarities between families.

The Inquiry Unit for Term 1 for grade 1 and 2 students is ‘The Dreamtime’, students will be investigating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s culture and history and the importance of storytelling and connection to the past, present and future.
