Hockey Program Term 1

This term, Years 1-5 will be participating in Hockey Australia’s all-inclusive Sporting Schools Program. The program will introduce students to an iconic Olympic sport, beginning in a school environment.

Students will learn the basic skills of the game (pushing, receiving, dribbling and stealing), as well as develop fundamental motor skills, and improve their ability to work as part of a team using safe practices!

NSW Hockey coaches will provide students with demonstrations and assist students in copying the movement of each skill. This program is all about the fun that comes with playing small-sided and modified games of hockey with a focus on safe practices.

Class teachers will support the NSW Hockey coaches to facilitate the sessions. Students will participate in Week 3, Week 5, Week 6, Week 7 and Week 8 on a Wednesday.

SJB Swimming Carnival - Monday 15 February 2021

Earlier this week, students in Years 3-6 were invited via COMPASS to attend the SJB Primary School Swimming Carnival.  This is open to students who can competently swim 50m or more without stopping or touching the bottom of the pool.

While the day is about participation and enjoyment for the sport, the main purpose of the Swimming Carnival is to select a group of students to represent St Joseph’s at the Diocesan Swimming Carnival. Therefore this carnival is for:

  • Years 3 to Year 6 students who can competently swim 50 metres or more without stopping or touching the bottom of the pool; and
  • Year 2 students turning 8 in 2021 and who can competently swim 50 metres or more without stopping or touching the bottom of the pool.

If you wish your child in Year 2 who is turning 8 in 2021 to attend the school swimming carnival, please email the school office so we can add your child to the COMPASS event where you will be able to access more information.

The ONLINE consent form needs to be completed and payment of $8 will need to be made by Friday 5 February 2021.
