Grade F-1 Miss Bennett

Some highlights over the past 2 weeks in Foundation/1 include planning, drafting and writing a good copy of our ‘SANTA LETTERS’. The students loved writing to Santa, we are hoping to send our letters off to the North Pole by the end of the week so Santa and MrsClause have time to reply to us before they get too busy.

KABOOM sports was also another highlight. Last Thursday the F-2 students took a bus toKyabram P-12 to be involved in the Kaboom sports rotations. All of the students had a superday. They showed an excellent amount of kindness, respect and the ability to have a 'red hot go' at new sporting activities.

A big Happy Birthday to Sydnee! Sydnee rode in on her new ‘big girl’ bike and shared her super star bike riding skills to Miss Bennett.

Writing

In writing on a Monday we have been learning about procedures. This week we wrote a procedure about how to make popcorn. Everyone loved watching the popcorn machine pop the corn kernels. But our favourite part would definitely have to be eating it!

Kaleidoscope

The other week we completed our last Kaleidoscope sessions. In these sessions students played lots of different games. One of the games that they completed was called ‘Theatre Sports’. Students had 10 seconds to make whatever was said e.g. with your partner, make a cricket bat etc.

Grade 3-4 Miss Stock

On the 3rd of November, the 3/6 students went to Melbourne for an excursion. The bus trip took 3 hours, due to having to take a different route because of the floods. The students first went to the Art Gallery and then to the MCG.

MCG- ‘Game On’ Sports Museum

In games on, we got to play rugby, footy, soccer, netball, basketball, rock climbing, surfing, horse riding and bike riding. There were wristbands with an A on it and every time you scanned it on a symbol you got more and more points. There was a code on the side of the wristband that we could put into the computer to see how many points we scored for different games.

Olympic Speed Skater, Richard Goerlitz

It was great to see an Olympian and hear what he had done in his career. Richard talked to us about the importance of never giving up and if you want something you have to work for it. You need to be thankful for what you have and love what you do. You can fall but you need to get back up and build your confidence again. He spoke about how he lost his confidence at times but he had to build it back up again and believe in himself.

Art Gallery

The senior students went to the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne on the 3rd of November. At the art gallery we loved how a vesper was made out of bronze. We drew a picture of the Chinese guardian which was very interesting.

In the art gallery there was a stained glass rainbow roof that had animals hidden in it, like a turtle, lions and a snake.

Our tour guide Jo lead us to the painting Ulysses and the Sirens, which are half women, half eagles. Ulysses wanted to go near them to hear their beautiful song but it made people who heard it throw themselves into the water and drown because they were so mesmerised by it. They then spent eternity listening to the beautiful song. Ulysses was tied to his boat so that he did not drown himself.

Melbourne Excursion

On 3rd November the three to sixes went to the National Gallery of Victoria and the MCG. First we went on the bus for 3 hours to get to Melbourne. When we first got there we went into the NGV. We got a tour of the art in the gallery. There was a super cool glass painting and you lay on your back and looked up. We also went to the Japanese part of the gallery. It was super interesting. When we were in the Japan part we did a fun drawing activity when you were back to back with someone and someone would describe something and they would draw it. After we looked at all the art, we went to a wall that had the water running down it and we touched it and had a bit of fun.

Afterwards we headed to a park to eat our lunch and I had a sandwich and we played on the playground for an hour. We got on the bus again and we went to the MCG. When we got there, we saw some statues out the front of it. It was cool to see some of the famous people that have done amazing things.
