Principal's Report

Term 4

There have been some exciting events throughout the school over recent weeks with a highlight being the Lower Primary production of ‘Journey Out to Sea’ last Friday evening. The large audience of families and friends were enthusiastically cheering and encouraging our youngest students performing on the big stage. They displayed confidence and had a joyous experience that enriched their engagement with performing arts.

I am pleased to advise that for the first time in several years our Concord School Community Concert will return on the evening of Monday 5th December, from 6-8pm on the oval at our Bundoora Campus. This whole school event will feature dances and musical performances from students across the school as well as market stalls and an appearance from Santa. Please mark this event on your calendars, it is not to be missed!

Our school graduations are fast approaching. The Year 12 Graduation will be held on Thursday 1st December at the University Hill Conference Centre. The students are currently writing their speeches and reflecting on their time at Concord School. The Year 6 Graduation will be held as an evening event in the Gymnasium on Thursday 15th December.

Student Reunion

On the evening of Thursday 13th October, a reunion of former students was held in the gym. Tim Clarke, a Secondary 11/12 teacher, was aware that some former students expressed that they would like to catch up with some classmates. We decided to stage a ‘low key’ reunion and placed one Facebook post. It was much bigger and better than we expected. Over 150 ex-students and parents/carers attended with the oldest ex-student being Kerry who graduated in 1987. It was fantastic to meet former students, some who arrived with their own children, and hear about their jobs and experiences. Thanks to Ann, Courtney, Rhiannon, Jane, Bronwyn and particularly Tim for organising the event.

Visitors from the Education Department in Vietnam

We were privileged yesterday to be visited by 20 members of the Education Department from Vietnam. They were keen to hear about the broader education system in Victoria as well as how we operate our school to ensure that the opportunities are maximised for our students.

Principal Award - Peter Feain

Peter has had a wonderful year of personal and academic development. In the classroom Peter has demonstrated a growth mindset, increased independence and self-motivation which has allowed him to make significant gains in all areas of his learning.

Peter consistently displays the student expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Being Safe during all of his interactions with both staff and students. Peter brings a great sense of humour and positivity to 9/10H and the wider 9/10 section.

During Fit for Life and STEAM electives Peter demonstrates the student expectation of 'Being a Learner' as he is always striving to get the most out of these opportunities and encourages others to do the same. Peter is to be congratulated for a phenomenal year and should be extremely proud of all he has achieved.
