Sustainability

FOTH

The Sustainability Stall at the upcoming Fair on the Hill will be selling goods made by the students at our school. These include dog chew toys made from pre-loved t-shirts, cat toys made with wool and string, candles, herb sachets and the famous St Justin's cook book with recipes used this year in the Kitchen Garden program, and illustrations from the students.

The cook book will make a wonderful Christmas gift for family members with easy to follow recipes and very colourful illustrations.

We have aligned ourselves with the plant stall so please look out for us and show your support. Thank you to all the students and families who have contributed to our stall. We are very proud of our work and look forward to seeing many of you on what will be a beautiful sunny day.

Year 4 Stewardship Program

The year four students have been working on creating a jingle for upcoming National Recycling Week. They have used tunes that they know well, eg ABC song, changed the lyrics to deliver a message about recycling, and accompanied it with music created with natural materials and body percussion. We hope to share some of these with you  - their ideas and creativity are quite astounding.

National Recycling Week 2022

This year, National Recycling Week explores the idea that:

Waste isn't Waste until it's Wasted.

We encourage you all to discuss with your families the concept of waste, and where waste goes. Perhaps there are ways you can reuse some of the waste to improve practices to contribute to a healthier planet. Please look on the planet ark website for more information.

Year 3 Garden helpers

We have mentioned in previous newsletters the interest and concern of some of the year 3 students on the environment and in particular our school garden. These year 3 students have taken it upon themselves to be guardians of the garden, reminding other students to be aware when balls go into the garden space that they have to be careful not to tread on the plants, and be careful with the fence surrounding the garden. These garden guardians have begun making signs to erect on the fence to make others aware of their behaviour. I congratulate Talia I who used her spare time to make these posters, and together with her friend Kiara K, they are making a difference and putting their words into action.
