YEAR 3 & 4 OASIS CAMP

By Ugo Torcasio (Year 4 Teacher) & Cathleen Barker (Head of Junior School)

It was a drizzling and wet morning as we embarked on our journey to Oasis Camp in the hills of Mt Evelyn.

The excitement and energy ran through the group like the latest storms and floods in the local hills.

Once we began our activities the students settled into a routine of fun enjoying the reptile house, flying fox, archery, low ropes, rock climbing and gym games.

Some of our awesome parent volunteers spoke about highlight and joy in watching children laughing with friends and relaxing.

Although our final day was beset by rain, we enjoyed indoor activities with Camper the Red Heeler dog stealing any ball he could get his mouth onto.

After a few years of no camps many students overcome anxiety and homesickness and got through the first night on their first camp. We celebrated this the next morning and the second night was relaxing and settled. Staff and parents were so proud of this group and enjoyed our time with them.

ANTI BULLYING WORKSHOP

By Year 5/6 Students

This term we have been learning about Bullying in the Open Parachute program. It is helping us to understand how to stop bullying behaviour. In one of the sessions, we were encouraged to design an anti-bullying poster. Our group talked about our own personal experiences of times we felt bullied and advice we could share with others. One of our teammates Erin came up with the slogan ‘Fire up friendship –burn down bullying’ as a way of connecting all our thoughts about this issue.

Fire up friendship means to build up and encourage each other. To use care, kindness, and love as a way to keep the fire of friendship alive.

Burn down bullying means to put a stop to bullying with a quick fire that would destroy all the negative behaviour. We feel bullying is toxic and it needs to be destroyed with this type of fire.

We are excited for others to see our poster and hopefully understand the message that bullying is never okay.
