Year 8 Handball
Tuesday 15 November 2022
On Tuesday 15 November the Year 7 European Handball students participated in the Kingston Division Competition held at Oakleigh Indoor Sports. The competition commenced with a skills session run by Handball Victoria before the round robin. Beaumaris fielded three strong teams and it was amazing to see the skill development throughout the day. All students are to be commended for their sportsmanship and participation. The final results for the day: C & B Division 4th and A Division 5th.

The Year 8 Handball Team competed at the Kingston Division European Handball competition on Friday 18 November. Our A Team had an amazing day of handball, winning all games in the round robin and winning the championship for the day. A great effort by all members in the team and a special mention for Harvey Kenny who scored 50 goals for the day. Our B Team (mixed team) also played some great games through the day, testing their handball skills against the other schools.

BSC students met with teams from Brighton Secondary and McKinnon Secondary at Duncan McKinnon Reserve and were lucky enough to participate in a clinic run by Lacrosse Victoria. Here, we practiced the skills we’d been learning all term and listened keenly to the advice of senior players. In the game component of the day, our Girls and Boys teams won their first games and we saw some impressive skills all ‘round. Unfortunately, the torrential rain and howling winds meant we had to abandon the tournament early. We definitely got a taste of what it’s like to play a winter sport! While we were disappointed we didn’t get to play some more games, I’m sure it’ll be a day remembered by all.

Students began the day with a small skills session with Lacrosse Victoria before jumping into a round robin competition. Although the teams were a little short on numbers that didn’t hold back the Beaumaris spirit. Our girls’ team was two players down but that didn’t stop these superstars securing a win in the third game to place third overall. Our boys suffered a small upset early in the day but had a chance at redemption in the grand final, clinching a win over McKinnon in overtime.
