Year 9 Japanese Visit to Beaumaris North Primary School

The Japanese class paid a visit to Beaumaris North Primary School on Wednesday, November 16th. On this excursion, we interacted with four groups of Year 2 students, teaching them various origami skills. This experience allowed us to bond and learn new things while teaching them, as well as further study the approaches we believed we knew completely and make necessary revisions. The pupils were a joy to teach since they were so enthusiastic about producing ninja stars, frogs, ducks, and paper cranes. We also got to see Koji Sensei, a well-known teacher who taught many of Beaumaris Secondaries' children in primary school. This experience was worth the time, and we hope to visit the students again sometime soon in the future.

It was really fun teaching them and talking to the Year 2s. The way they were smiling when they made ninja stars was wholesome.

It was fun to help them make origami but it was difficult to get everyone on the same step.

Year 10 Japanese Visit to Beaumaris Primary School

On Thursday 17 November, I along with the rest of the Year 10 Japanese class, headed to Beaumaris Primary School to teach the Year 5 students about a Japanese board game named Doubutsu Shougi. This game used a small array of directional verbs that the Year 5s had to use to move their pieces around the board. We interacted with two classes during our visit to the Primary School. Both were quite pleasant, and I was delighted they were so eager to learn Doubutsu shougi and develop their directional skills in Japanese. I found this trip to be an enjoyable and relatable experience, since I too would have been in a class like that in Year 5. I would like to thank our Japanese teacher, Yamane sensei, and Go sensei from Beaumaris Primary School, for giving us such a wonderful and fulfilling excursion.

Year 10 Japanese Online Exchange

Year 10 Japanese class students completed their second online exchange with Norboribestu Akebi High School. Students discussed their neighbourhood and showcased their understanding of what they had learnt this term.

The Japanese students presented an excellent presentation, showing students traditional Japanese houses, buildings and rooms.

The Beaumaris students presented on our neighbourhood and important features within Bayside.

We were able to use CORE values of curiosity and respect to engage with the Japanese school to create meaningful conversation and showcase Japanese speaking skills which developed this term.

It was すごい experience and we look forward to the next opportunity to learn about students in Japan and improve our cultural awareness!

I found the experience to be enriching and a lot of fun overall! – Joshua H

I was able to build connections with the Japanese students, improving my world view. – Annabelle H
