5/6MG - Religious Education

Ms Maryanne

In Year 5 /6MG, in both Religious Education and in our Inquiry unit, we are developing our understanding of Creativity, the  Churches’ teaching on this topic, and how we are all unique with special gifts and talents, using our gifts for the betterment of ourselves, others and the world.

We enjoyed this’ Creativity’ provocation of Starry Night by Picasso,

where we reflected on the beautiful image

Students created thoughtful comments and open questions and connected with this artwork using their knowledge of Van Gogh and the world.

What I SEE

I see a cerulean sky with amber coloured stars that stand out. (Maisonya.)

I can see bright enormous stars in the dark sky with the full shiny moon. (Dennis)

I think it is in the middle of the night and  everyone is in a nice deep sleep. (Charlie)

I think that Van Gogh found the night time fascinating. (Sierra)

What I THINK

I think that Van Gogh made this artwork about his life. (Edie)

I think that the perspective of the painting is from Van Gogh’s hospital.  (Tom)

Van Gogh observed the sky and thought it was mesmerizing so he recreated it for memories. (Amy)

I think this painting became famous because Van Gogh expressed his feelings in this painting. (Nevaeh)

I think Vincent Van Gogh was having a bad time and was feeling lonely and miserable while he was painting this picture. I also think that he was thinking about his village while he was in a hospital painting this picture and how sad he felt without the flowers in bright yellow. (Prytha)

What I WONDER

I wonder if this little town is Van Gogh's childhood home in Holland.(William)

I wonder why this painting was painted.  Was it to let everyone see the world? (Maisonya)

I wonder if this is how he thinks of the world from his perspective.  (Ryan)

I wonder why Van Gogh  goes from bright to dark? Does this painting have hidden meaning? (Fanta)

I wonder how Van Gogh draws the sky moving and I wonder where the painting is now. (Tyler)

I wonder what this town is? The eerie looking shrubbery and the village which is awake in the dead of night is unsettling to me. The sky looks like waves crashing and the hills look a bit like shore next to a beach. I wonder why some stars shine brighter than others? Is it some kind of hidden message? I wonder…(Rida)
