Enroll through Casey Council for Hillsmeade Kindergarten. 

Long Day Care enrolments with kindergarten is through the ELC office.

What is happening in the ELC

Our Learning

During this fortnight, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading
  • Listening for a common letter sound in a story and understanding how to position their mouth to make the sound; discovering other words that start with the same sound
  • Introduction of sound bags; focusing on the sound’s a letter makes and using cued articulation to focus on the pronunciation of the sound (S and L)
  • Turning in and analysing personality traits of a character through a story i.e. bossy
Writing  
  • Children’s sign in sheets 
  • Alphabet, number charts and first dictionaries on offer at the drawing table
  • Writing and addressing letters in the Post Office dramatic play area
  • Using a visual aid to learn about the positioning and directionality of writing lower case letters
STEM
  • Exploring measurement and length by using fairy floss sticks, icy pole sticks and match sticks as they compare the sticks of different sizes
  • Following the scientific experiment of flower stems placed in different coloured dyes and discussing different parts of the plants and how these work
Inquiry
  • Each group of children have continued to further explore their their chosen topic (Bees, wombats, insects and plants) and have began to make connections between the interconnectedness of living things and how we can care for the environment
  • Exploring nature and the natural environment by examining a range of items from the natural world (seed pods, shells, feathers, nests, drift wood)
  • Creating ephemeral art using natural items
  • Representing their developing understandings about mini beasts/wombats through their use of clay
Social & emotional learning
  • Exploring and practicing different ways to calm our body; quiet reading, resting and listening to calming music, finding a quiet place to sit etc.
