46th Georgy Awards

46th Georgy Awards

It is with absolute delight and pride, I attended the Georgy Awards on Saturday 8th February with my 2019 students; Hamish Nelson, Jessica Eldred, Abbi Makin and Mitchell Lawson-Banks, all of whom were also Georgy Award nominees for their performance in GSSC’s 2019 production, '13 The Musical'. With other nominees coming from Seymour to Echuca and schools including Private, Catholic and State, the competition was of an incredibly high standard. It was a delight to see these students formally recognised with nominations for their spectacular work in the production. It was a wonderful moment to watch Mitch take the win for his category for Best Supporting Male (Jr). Although only his first performance in a musical production, Mitch showed just how honed his comedic skills already are, having his audience in stitches as he performed the ‘Archie’. Such well-deserved recognition of his fantastic work.

Abbigail Makin, our Year 11 production choreographer, was surprised with a special ‘Judges Choice Award’, recognising not only her creative talent in developing the choreography for the production but all her incredible leadership and dedication as she travelled between the four schools teaching the routines to the Year 7 chorus members. It was an enormous effort for Abbi and her supporting student choreographers, to create routines for a full musical production at such a young age. This award was certainly well earned and we look forward to seeing Abbi’s future achievements in dance.

We are so proud of all our nominees and award winners and look forward to seeing the incredible productions these and the other GSSC Theatre Studies students will produce this year. Congratulations!
