From the Principal Team

Hello everyone, we have had a great start to 2020 at all three campuses.  Students are engaged in their learning.  Staff are all working really hard to make each campus innovative, safe and stimulating for each student, each day.

The new neighbourhood system with the Learning Mentors is progressing well.  Each Learning Mentor is building relationships with their students and parents/guardians will be receiving a courtesy call from their child’s mentor in the near future.  We continue to make further improvements each day and thank you to all parents/guardians for your feedback as to what is working really well and what we can do better. We are in a partnership together where we put the students at the centre of all we do.

EDUCATION MINISTER'S VISIT

Hon. James Merlino MP, Deputy Premier of Victoria and Minister for Education was in Shepparton on Wednesday 12th February. He visited the old Shepparton High School site to perform a “sod turning ceremony” marking the beginning of demolition works and building of the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College.  Suzanna Sheed, Member for Shepparton attended, as well as our School Captains Farid and Abby and other dignitaries from Shepparton and the Department of Education.

Our Executive Principal Genevieve Simson commenced proceedings by introducing all parties and highlighting the work that has been done to get to this point. Mr Merlino and Ms Sheed both spoke so highly of this work and the great efforts made by all to start up the new College.  Hansen Yunken were also formally announced as the building contractors to complete demolition works and build the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

After the ceremony Minister Merlino and Suzanna Sheed visited the McGuire Campus where they walked through a Year 7 class to see first hand what was being taught, talking to students and teachers about the new aspects of the College such as uniform, new teaching styles and the AVID folders (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

WELCOME BBQ'S/COMPASS TRAINING

Over the last two weeks the three campuses have all held welcome BBQ’s/Compass training evenings which were all very well attended.  This has given each campus an opportunity to showcase the new “Compass College Portal” and how it connects us all.  It has also been a valuable opportunity for families to meet up with their child’s

Learning Mentors, teachers and leaders.

SWIMMING SPORTS

Congratulations to Green House on becoming the overall champions of our very first swimming carnival at our new College.  This was the culmination of three days, beginning with Year 7 trials on Tuesday, followed by senior swimming sports on Thursday. It was fantastic to see so many students participating either by swimming, dressing up in house colours or supporting their peers.

Thanks to Elisha Fiddes, Dale Cuthbert, Kaitlyn Souter and the sports trainees for the organisation and all staff for making sure the days were a success.  Great fun was had by all!

COMPASS PORTAL

All passwords have now been distributed to both students & parents/guardians/carers.  If you have any questions about how to connect please direct them to staff at your specific campus.

Compass is how we communicate all aspects of College activities, academically and behaviourally.  It is also a portal to celebrate the success of your child.  So get on board!
