WRITING

Mentor Texts
The students have been exploring descriptive language to enhance their written pieces. This has been done through using what we term 'mentor texts'.
Mentor texts serve as an example of great writing. The texts are read for the purpose of studying the author's craft, or the way the author uses words and structures the writing. The goal is to provide students a model they could emulate in crafting their own piece.
We explored the vocabulary in 'One Careless Night' by Christina Booth and 'FOX' by Mem Fox.
Students are developing an understanding of how stories can be structured in different ways as well as, the power of words and, how our word choices can transform a piece of writing.
