Curriculum Survey 2019

by Bob Prola & Maripaz Berlin

This Curriculum Survey collected 219 responses from you, our members, regarding your opinion on the district’s currently adopted curriculum for Math, Reading/ELA, Science, Social Studies and SEAL. The charts seen here are the results of that survey. It is divided up between Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten (K), Grades 1 through 3, Grades 4 and 5, Grade 6, Grade 7 and 8, Special Education (SpED) and Teachers On Special Assignment (TOSA).

The survey also yielded commentary on the effectiveness and/or lack thereof, of the current curriculum, frustrations over piloting Math, but not adopting, and overall dissatisfaction and struggle with the current curriculum.

Through analysis, grades TK, K, 1-3, and SpEd prioritized needing Math curriculum, with Reading coming in a close second. Grades 4-6  prioritized needing Science, then Social Studies. While grades 7-8 prioritized needing Social Studies more, then Science.

The survey also found that OGEA educators are spending money out of their own pockets to purchase materials to improve the district’s curriculum. Comments made on the survey are not included here.

This information has been shared with the assistant superintendent of educational services and will be shared with the school board.  We thank you for your input and making your voices heard in an effort to improve education in Oak Grove.
