Sustainability

On Tuesday the 14th of June, we the Environment & Sustainability leaders went to Namatjira Reserve. We watched the process of clearing out a litter trap, it was fascinating to see just how much rubbish was in the trap. We learnt that it costs $1000 for the machine every time they have to clear out the trap, and $300 to take all the rubbish to the tip. Namatjira Reserve is man made and the wetlands are designed to filter and clean the water. Overall it was a great experience, and a great opportunity to learn more about the environment.

On Tuesday the 14th of June Ms Wendt took Jim, Gus, Jade & Alice to Namatjira park to learn about the litter traps. The traps were very interesting and we got to see 2 out of 4 nets being emptied. The workers get paid to do this job but they have to pay for the fuel for the truck and machine for taking the rubbish to the tip and the machine to take out the nets to empty into the truck. After that we went searching for creatures in the pond and found some cool things. We were on our way to the next activity and did a beach clean up alongside a big walk past a real litter trap in Mordialloc Creek. This trap is the last chance for litter to be trapped before it goes into our beautiful bay.  It truly was a great day.
