Principal Report
I’d like to thank everyone in the Edenhope College learning community for efforts over semester one. It has been solid work for all with covid, gastro and the flu doing the rounds. That aside it feels so good to be getting back to a new normal without lockdowns!
Cluster Wellbeing Day
Students from Year 7 – 12 participated in a Cluster Wellbeing day at Balmoral with Balmoral and Goroke students and staff. Boys attended the Balmoral Bowling Club and girls were at the Balmoral Community College. There were special speakers on the day that spoke to student wellbeing and lots of fun activities aimed at getting the students to mix. While wellbeing was the focus, socialising was just as important after the last couple of years we’ve had. The day went really well and students all participated. A big thank you to all speakers and staff who helped on the day.
At Edenhope College we have really focused on student wellbeing over the last few years and have a really strong focus amongst staff in this area. We have regular wellbeing meetings with the core wellbeing team. Student wellbeing goes hand in hand with student achievement. If students are happy and healthy they more confident and successful with their schooling.
Building Maintenance/New Works
Some good news on the school front with contractors finally being secured and repairs/new works about to start in several areas. The damaged conference room and Year 7 Centre will be fixed over the holidays. This was damaged severely in the recent storms (January). Other works that have been quoted on are for a boundary fence that encloses the school from the front fence all the way past the stadium, down to the primary school and then up around the primary playground. Quotes for fencing have been accepted and a Horsham contractor will begin soon. Finally we have another contractor coming within the next week to look and quote on the stadium ceiling. This has been an eyesore for a while, but getting a contractor has been the issue here.
CF Day
Well done again to the Edenhope College learning community with another $1540 raised for cystic fibrosis. Another great effort by the Reid family who catered and put on the canteen with the help of Annabel Hawkins. Fine food, fun and festivities were features of the day. We won’t mention the staff lost all tug of war activities against students ☹
Excursions/Round Robin
Great to see students being able to go on camps and excursions again. There are many opportunities this year that have and will be presented to students. Year level camps, snow trips, senior school careers expos, leadership camps etc. Students have missed out on a lot so it’s really important they take opportunities that come along. As a parent, please encourage your child to take any opportunities that present. There could be CSEF funding available to help with these excursions and there definitely is the availability of having a payment plan with our business manager to chip away at costs.
It was fabulous to see our local primary schools participating together in the round robin sporting afternoons again. We’ve had couple of afternoons this term and will continue to have a couple each term. Its great for participation and equally important student socialisation.
