- LIGHTNING PREMS -

Oh what a week!

We are calling Week 8 the ‘LP festival’ for many of our Year 5&6 students!

Wednesday saw our boys and girls soccer teams head to Dendy Park to play a massive day of soccer games. Thursday we had 3 teams head to Duncan McKinnon courts to play netball and then to wrap up the week, our football team headed to Basil Reserve in Malvern East to play in their Dendy District tournament!

Congratulations to every student that attended these Lightning Premiership days; we had some wonderful feedback on how well they represented the school, which is wonderful to hear!

Here’s a summary of each tournament written up by our House Leaders:

LP Soccerby Gabes F, Jackson C, Xavier K (Marian Leaders)

We had such a great day on Wednesday! As the Soccer tournament was at Dendy Park, we walked there and back.  Our boys team started off a little shaky, losing 2-1 to St. Joan of Arc.  Then we came together as a team, improved our game-play and won the rest of our pool games. We won our semi final, Pool A 1st place, vs Pool B 2nd place, which then got us through to the Grand Final!  We played a great game against Galilee and we WON 3-0!  Our girls team tried their best all day, developing their skills and team-play in each game, but didn’t make it to the finals. They had so much fun though.  Many thanks to Mr Berlingeri and Miss Gourley for coaching both of the teams and to our helpful umpires, Andrew C, Tom R & Angus S.  Good luck to our Boys who now go to Beachside Division Play-Offs next term!

LP Netballby Tom R & Levi G (Finbar Leaders)

Our three Netball teams took off to Duncan McKinnon Reserve to compete in the Netball Lightning Premiership on Thursday. The Mixed A team was coached by Coach Kay, The Mixed B team was coached by Coach Thompson, and the A Girls coach was Nat Bell, a parent helper, along with our LSO Lauren. The Mixed B team made it into the Grand final but unfortunately lost to De La Salle, however they did have a magincent run all day. The A girls didn’t make it into the final but had a fun day with their friends. The A mixed team won it all, remaining undefeated for the whole day! The Mixed A team will now play at the next level; Beachside Division Winter Play-Offs. Good job to all the teams and thanks to all parent helpers and the coaches.  Good luck for the next round A Mixed Boys!

LP AFL Footballby Enzo S & Millie B (Nagle Leaders)

The St Finbars footy team arrived at school in their SF jerseys, mouthguards packed and hopped on the bus to Darling Park in Malvern East. We versed the tough St Joan of Arc first up and unfortunately just lost by 2 points.  Next up was St Joseph’s Malvern and we fortunately won by around 6 points!. Game 3 was against a strong St Patricks Murrumbeena team and we sadly lost that game. In our next game we versed De La Salle and ended up getting pumped. It was good to then have lunch and re-gather to face Galilee, South Melb afterwards.  We played well as a team and came away with a 6 point win!. The Grand final was played between St Joan Of Arc and De La Salle.  It was a close game, but it ended up St Joan Of Arc coming away as winners on the day.  A big thank you to Mrs D’Rozario, Mr Callery and to Lauren for helping coach us over the day.  Well done to everybody that tried their best.
