Holiday Reading

It is always a treat to unbox new library books.  Last week, we had a large delivery and so staff are busy cataloguing these for students to borrow during the holiday period.  These new library books are diverse in content and are located on our display discs.

Please remember, that the library welcomes book requests from students so that we may cater for all tastes in providing interesting young adult material.

Childrens' Book Council of Australia Sun Shadow Judging Project 2022

I would like to congratulate our five MGSC students who are Shadow Judging the CBCA Young Adult book award this year. Charlotte Mounter, Hannah Huang, Demah Farhan, Aniela Cheung and Caitlin Keele have accepted the challege to read the six shortlisted books, judge each book according to a criteria, create a response and ultimately select a winning book.  The CBCA Sun Project has funded our judging panel by providing local author Fiona Wood to mentor and guide the students through the judging process and by providing free books.  I must commend our five MGSC Shadow Judges on their diligence, enthusiam and time management. Stay tuned for the announcement of the winning Young Adult book during Book Week 2022 in Semester 3.

Book Club

Book club members gathered last week to discuss the books they have been reading and to unpack our Term 2 books; We were liars and The hobbit graphic novel.  There were conversations about how some students enjoyed reading these titles, while others did not enjoy them at all!  Book club is certainly a good opportunity for our students to expand their horizons, but ultimately we are looking to read books that our group enjoy as a collective and so the quest continues.

Our Term 3 club pics have been recommended and selected by the students themselves and are as follows; One of us is lying and The fault in our stars.  I am sure many more interesting conversations will ensue.

Both books will be available to collect from the library desk on the last day of school.
