School Council

As Term 2 draws to a close, I wanted to draw attention to some highlights from School Council so far this year.

Firstly, our sincere thanks to Christine and the entire team at MPS for their passion and hard work in what has been a challenging first half of the year. We appreciate your enthusiasm to continue improvements around the school while also focusing on the core business of educating our children.

School Council is committed to working closely with PA to ensure that the fundraising and social activities are aligned and support the whole school community. We remain grateful for the enthusiasm and energy of the PA and look forward to the fantastic social and fundraising events planned for Terms 3 and 4.

It has been wonderful to see children enjoying the new red slide in the front playground, which was made possible by funds raised by the PA.

A highlight for our community was the Open Night last month – it was fantastic to have the school community together again, see the work that takes place in the classrooms, plus the sensational instrumental music performances!

Oversight of the school’s budget is a key role of Council – one of the issues that is currently being managed is the impact of less families than budgeted paying their voluntary contributions. These contributions allow MPS to provide a stimulating learning environment and programs including student technology devices, plus classroom consumables.  It is still possible to make your contribution via Compass or at the office.

Our OSCH partner Camp Australia continues to improve its service with more consistent staffing and a lift in the program, plus a commitment to the winter school holiday program, Rocketeers. Feedback from the 22 students who attended the recent pupil free day was really FUN!

A key role of our Education Sub-Committee is the review of policies – a number of these were ratified at School Council meeting on Tuesday night, and will now be sent to the school community for consultation.

2022 is Marlborough Primary School’s strategic review year – school staff have already commenced part of this process, and over the coming months, we will be welcoming input from the school community with parent focus groups scheduled on Tuesday 19 July (2:45-3:30pm) at school and Wednesday 20 July (7:00-7:45pm) online.

The Building and Grounds Sub-Committee has overseen two working bees this year, with another three scheduled for the remainder of the year – Sunday 17th July (2:00 – 4:00pm), Tuesday 11th October (3.30pm – 5:00pm) and Thursday 24th November (3.30pm – 5:00pm). These working bees are key for us to improve the look and feel of the school, and we hope you can attend.

Promoting our school to the local community remains a focus and we were delighted to arrange real estate board to promote enrolments and Open night earlier in the year.

A massive thank you all School Council members for their enthusiasm and passion this year!

Enjoy the holidays!
