Principal's Report

Semester 1 Report Writing Day (June 14) - Commencement Semester 2 ( June 15)

A school closure day will take place on June 14 to allow teaching staff to complete Semester One reports which will be distributed to families in the first week of the school holidays.

Our Semester Two curriculum program will begin on the 15 June. This is two weeks prior to the end of Term Two to allow for our whole school 2023 Curriculum step-up program to take place in the last three weeks of this school year.

The Step-up Program is used by several schools to give students a head start into the following school year's curriculum program. This is particularly useful for our senior year students but also has benefits for our junior year students as having finished the 2022 curriculum program, they finish the final weeks of the school year with a strong focus on the next steps in their learning.

Exams

Over the last week students from year 10 and 11 have been sitting for exams to complete formal assessments for Semester One. Examination assessments from Year 7-11, although stressful, are an important preparation for students wishing to complete their VCE and go on to University . Each time our students sit an exam they will learn about the importance of preparing appropriately for exams. Students lead busy lives, balancing sport, part-time work, social lives as well as family time, however, if they wish to achieve long term career goals then priority should be given to their studies. I have no doubt that students will find the more focus they give to effective study prior to examinations the better will their result be. Parents play an important role as their children’s number one cheerleader through helping to establish a good routine and environment for study as well as the encouragement of perseverance and self-discipline, which are ultimately behind our students’ future successes.

Year 7 Reflection Day

On Monday of this week our Year 7 students participated in a one-day retreat facilitated by the Lasallian Youth Retreat Team Leader Damian Khoury and our own Lasallian Youth Minister Jess Edwards. The team led our students through a series of activities to explore their relationship with Jesus and how this impacted on their daily life. To finish the retreat, our students were involved in a prayer service to allow them to reflect on their experiences of the day , and give thanks for all the gifts and talents God has given them.

My thanks to the following staff who assisted on the day: Mr Rhynehart, Mr Perryman, Ms Kintzel, Mr Loonstra, Mr Dias, Mrs Gengaroli, Mrs Armstrong, Ms Borg, Ms Finamore, Mr Farrelly, Ms Yates, Dr Biggin, Mr Alexander and our maintenance  and administration teams.

Farewell and Good luck

We send our best wishes to staff member Ms Emilia Floris who leaves St John’s at the end of this week to prepare for the birth of her first child. We look forward to seeing her new family back at St John’s in the not too distant future.

Enrolment Interviews for 2023
