Staff at Sacred Heart spent the last day of Term 2 continuing on their professional development journey in Reframing Learning and Teaching Environments (ReLATE).

The feedback from staff has been extremely positive in view of developing knowledge and understanding of intergenerational trauma and ways to promote opportunities that will make positive and lasting changes to the wellbeing of colleagues, parents, children and young people.

To further enhance our teaching and learning practices we continued exploring neuroscience and behavioural theories and considered practical strategies to apply in our classrooms. Throughout the day we worked through the ReLATE designed modules covering various aspects of behaviour witnessed in children and adults.

We examined and discussed ‘Window of Tolerance’ . The term used to describe the zone of arousal in which a person is able to function most effectively. Some areas we explored were ‘Internal Working Model’- worthiness of self , expectations of others, trust and effectiveness when interacting with others. This led onto some other important areas covering Trauma, ADHD, Positive responses to unexpected behaviour and dysregulated emotion, Classroom behaviour, Workplace stress, Sustainable School-wide change and most importantly, providing a safe, predictable and supportive learning environment for our students, staff and school community.
