Captains Corner

Welcome back to school everyone. We hope you had a great holiday, and enjoyed two weeks away from school. It is great that we can finally go on long holidays, and even go interstate and overseas!

Here are some of the many things that we did over the holidays.

Isobel- On the holidays I went to Yarram, a place that is 217 km away from Doncaster. It took five hours to drive there, but we were really happy when we finally arrived. I stayed in a cabin at the camp we were at with my family and my dog. We drove around the surrounding towns and we visited a beach in Port Albert that we liked so much that we visited it twice! My dog was super happy too. We stayed in Yarram for four days and then went on another long drive home. Altogether, I had a really fun holiday but I am still happy to be back at school.

Josh- On the holidays I went to New Zealand. I flew to Auckland in the morning at 7, when most of the students of DPS wake up. Upon reaching Auckland I then had to fly to Queenstown as Auckland and Queenstown were on separate islands to each other. At New Zealand, some of my highlights were:

  • Sightseeing exhilarating views of the mountain range in a helicopter
  • Learning how to ski on a different mountain
  • Visiting a bird park where I saw a plethora of unique New Zealand species of birds. I even saw a few kiwis in the kiwi house which was dark because of the kiwi’s nocturnal behaviour (meaning they are only active during the dark, unlike how we are active throughout the day and sleep when it is dark).

I had a really good 2 week break and it was exciting to go overseas especially since we have been in lockdown for two years.

Weihan - In the two-week break that we all got, my holidays consisted of many things I would like to share with you. Firstly, I played some badminton with my coach along with my two brothers. It was actually quite tiring. Besides that, we had some friends over to our house. We all were able to engage ourselves and do what we enjoy. It was a joyful time and I cherished every moment of it. The next thing that we did was watch a movie. It was enjoyable and was extremely thrilling as many of my friends came along with me. It was a great time and kept us entertained. I had a lot of highlights in my holidays and the last thing that I did was have a lesson of badminton with a family friend. We were all reluctant to leave. I truly enjoyed my holidays and wished that I could just have a holiday that was a bit longer. However, after the break, I’m ready to return to school to see my friends again.

Lexie - My holidays consisted of spending a bit of time with my family by having lunch with them and going to a park with my cousins. After that I went to fencing and while I was there I spent time with my friend. I also received my first sword and I was very proud of myself. On the second week of the school holidays I went to a movie with some of my friends and I found the freedom exhilarating. I played online with my friends and created some new group chats, which was very fun. My brother and I went to the arcade with some friends and we saved the tickets we got for another time. I spent a few hours with my mum by going into the city for dinner and to see a musical. I will never forget the time I had with my mother as it was the first time we have done something like that. I really enjoyed my school holidays and I feel ready to begin a new term of learning.

What did you do on the holidays? Feel free to come and tell us something that you enjoyed next time you see us in the school yard.
