Our School Vision

“Cheltenham East students are empowered learners who are flexible thinkers with the skills and knowledge to respond critically and creatively to their world.”

Acknowledgement

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we are gathered, the Bunurong People and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging of the Kulin nation and extend that respect to other indigenous Australians present.

Early Dismissal Friday June 24th

The school term will end this afternoon with a final assembly presented on the backstage area (Weather permitting) at 2.10pm followed by a 2.30pm finish. Please make sure your children are picked up on time at 2.30pm. Term 3 starts on Monday July 11th.

Student Reports/Interviews

Reports were able to be accessed on Monday in preparation for Wednesday’s interviews. I think the most important part of this semester’s report is the “Effort” and “Attitude” children put in.  A massive thank you goes out to Jason Crebbin for setting up the reporting system again this year and spending hours upon hours working through technical issues.  Thank you also goes out to our teachers who conducted interviews with parents during Wednesday’s Curriculum Day.  It was a great opportunity for parents to catch up with teachers and discuss their child’s progress.

If you need help with any of these, google is a fantastic tool to use.

Library Books Wanted

We are after some more books by popular authors to put into our library.  Some families may have books gathering dust at home and they are no longer being read.  If that is the case, why not send them along to a new home as we only have so many copies of popular books the children can access.  The books need to be in reasonable to good condition, (No tears, missing pages etc) so they last.

We are after any of the following books by some of these popular authors: Andy Griffiths, Terry Denton, JK Rowlings, Jeff Kinney, Emily Rodda, Horrible Histories series, CS Lewis. Judy Blume, Alison Lester, Mem Fox, Roald Dahl, Percy Jackson series, Lewis Carroll, Eric Carle, Bill Martin, EB White, Margaret Wild just to name a few. The library monitors are looking forward to processing some more books for our school library.  You can leave the books in boxes labelled Library Books near the office area.

Congratulations to Ms Shea

Congratulations to Gemma Shea and husband Steve on announcing today that a new member will be welcomed to their family in early November.

We are thrilled with the news and can't wait to meet baby Shea!

Aussie of the Term

Our Aussie of the term award will be presented at our last assembly at 2.15pm this Friday. Thankyou to our wonderful teachers for organising the presentation. Thankyou also to Mrs Digby and her team for the presentation of Aussie of the term to one of our lucky children. The chosen student always shows our values of courtesy, co-operation, respect and responsibility no matter what the situation.

Parents Committee Funds

Thanks to our hard working parent committee we have money to purchase items for the children across the school.  As part of our student agency at CEPS our School Captains and myself have been sourcing soccer goals and new banners for the school.  We are also supplying some new sporting equipment to the grades across the school so it can be used outside.  Knights Sport are supplying the soccer goals and installing them next term (It will take around 3-4 weeks to make the goals and install them) and the new banners are being supplied by a company called Print Smart.  These are for the school to use at sports meetings and at house events. They will be delivered here early next term in about two weeks time.  This process unfortunately takes time to work through and it needs to be thorough as we want to make sure the community is getting value for money!  We look forward to their use next term.  These are examples of what we have ordered below.

Vaccinations for students

Vaccination remains the best way to protect students and staff in school settings.  Your ongoing support in encouraging children aged 5 to 11 to get vaccinated, and staff and students aged 16 and 17 to get their third dose, remains critical.

A communications pack is available to help schools share information about the importance of COVID-19 and flu vaccinations. Refer to Primary care vaccinations in schools grants.

The webpage includes a template letter from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Victoria Faculty Council Chair, encouraging parents and carers to vaccinate children ahead of winter. Translated versions of the RACGP letter are also available.

School Uniform Reminder

We appreciate that there are times when students are out of uniform for legitimate reasons and these will be accepted via a note from home. However, a prompt response to this reason should see students return to full school uniform as soon as possible. As we end Term 2, there is ample opportunity for students and parents to refocus on the school’s uniform guidelines and as such, it expected that all students are in full school uniform to start Term 3.

Cut down on Litter

We actively encourage our students to avoid bringing packets and plastic wrappers to school. It cuts down on litter and is much better for the environment. A named container is perfect.

Enrolments for 2023

2023 Foundation enrolments are open.  Enrolment forms can be collected at the Office or found on our website.  If you have a child turning 5 by April 30, 2023, please complete an enrolment form and bring in a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record and we will process the enrolment.  It helps us enormously with planning, if we have a clear indication of enrolments as early as possible.

Final Group Tour for Foundation 2023

Our final Group Tour will be held on Thursday July 21st at 9.30.  Please RSVP to the office to book a spot.

School Values

The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children. Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults. Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways. It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.

Happy Holidays

As this is our final newsletter for the term, it is timely to acknowledge a terrific effort by teachers, children and the community at Cheltenham East Primary School.  A special thank you goes out to our wonderfully dedicated teaching staff and education support staff for all the ways you make a difference.

I will be spending time reading and trying to get fitter.
