Principals Message

A MUST READ FOR EVERY PARENT!

Dear parents and carers,

In order to ensure a good start to Term 3 for every child I would like to draw your attention to the details of the Uniform Policy. The Policy is designed to establish attitudes of equality, personal responsibility and self discipline, good grooming habits, personal and communal pride and a sense of school spirit.  The support of the full school community is required if we are to achieve these goals.

Over the last two terms we have seen a growing disregard by a number of students in relation to some aspects of our policy.  If you know your child falls into any of the following categories it’s time to rectify matters before school resumes next term.

  • Shaved haircuts are not permitted
  • Mullet style cuts are not permitted
  • Cargo pants are not permitted
  • Round necked jumpers instead of v neck jumpers are not permitted
  • Earrings that are not plain silver or gold sleepers or studs are not permitted
  • Necklaces of any variety are not permitted
  • Sports socks that are not plain white are not permitted
  • Scrunchies or ribbons that are not white, navy, black or maroon are not permitted

We are very proud of our students and our uniform and we often receive comments on how well dressed and tidy we look.  I do not want this to change.

I am disappointed that there are a few parents who know very well of the requirements of the policy but choose to do otherwise. When you enrolled your child you signed an agreement which includes the statement;

“Your child is expected to adhere to the school’s standards for:

  • Behaviour, dress and self-discipline “

Next term the issuing of uniform breaches will start on day one. If for some reason your child does not have the correct uniform and brings an explanatory note it will not be classed as a breach. If you are in any financial strife at any time then a quiet conversation with me will help us to provide assistance where needed.

I ask that you support St Xavier’s in this matter and work with us to keep all our children safe, cared for, respected and valued.

Enjoy the time you might be able to have with your children over the school break.

Kind regards,

Jen

St Xavier’s  Gunnedah Uniform Policy

Introduction

It has been a tradition at St Xavier’s, Gunnedah since its foundation that students are to be  well presented and wear a common uniform.

Given the tradition and being considerate of the times and circumstances we live in, the  following Uniform Policy has been instituted.

Why a Uniform Policy?

There are several reasons apart from tradition, why such a policy should be instituted and  adhered to.

1. The wearing of a uniform does not distinguish between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ – all  the students are seen as equal in regards to uniform.

2. A common uniform provides a sense of identity and belonging to the community of St Xavier’s School.

3. Student’s personal presentation is a visible sign of pride in themselves and their school.

4. Being well groomed and in uniform contributes to the development of a common spirit.

5. To wear a uniform and comply with presentation  regulations requires self-discipline, personal  responsibility and thinking beyond self to others. We can let others and ourselves down when  we do not care.

6. Well-presented students are a good advertisement for the school within the local  community.

7. There are economical and practical advantages for parents.

It is for these reasons that this policy has been introduced and will be enforced by all the  members of Staff.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

At St Xavier’s we are proud of our school uniform. All children are required to wear the  following:

Amendments to the Policy

Amendments may be made to the policy after staff consultation and consultation with the School’s Advisory Council. Any  amendments to this policy would be communicated by the re-issue of the policy in its amended  form.

Breaches of the Policy

There are from time to time situations whereby students are unable to wear the correct uniform  for a short period. Where these situations are unavoidable the student is to have a note from  parents/carers explaining why the uniform is not worn and for how long they wish to seek an  exemption. Permission will only be granted for no more than a couple of days. If there are  significant difficulties in relation to the uniform then the Principal will need to be contacted.

Conclusion

The Policy is designed to establish attitudes of equality, personal responsibility and self discipline, good grooming habits, personal and communal pride and a sense of school spirit.  The support of the full school community is required if we are to achieve these goals.
