ATHLETICS DAY- STUDENT REPORT

Earlier this term, grades 4- 6’s competed in Athletics Day. It was held at Duncan MacKinnon Reserve, and despite the cold weather, students were resilient, supportive and enthusiastic.

It was lots of fun for everyone, as there were events ranging from shot-put to 200m sprints. The day wouldn’t have been possible without all the teachers and House Captains. A special thanks to Miss Seares for organising the events and the place for us.

Congrats to everyone who won ribbons and events, and an extra congratulations to Gold House for taking the win this year!

Mia Crawford - Red House Captain - Grade 6C:

The thing that I found the hardest was probably high jump because you have to lift your whole body up and over the pole without knocking it over. Once you succeed one level, the pole will go up a metre, and it gets higher and higher! And the event I enjoyed the most was the triple jump because I somehow got a really good run up that made me go further into the sand pit.

Monako Bernabe - Gold House - Grade 6D:        I found high jump the hardest because I haven't done it since grade 4 so it took a while to get hold of the technique. I enjoyed the 100m sprint because I enjoy running (not long distance)and I came first which was a bonus!     I learnt that I should practise more to get the best out of myself.

Gabrielle Ubachs- Green House Captain- Grade 6C:

I found the shot put the hardest because of the weight and the technique was hard to get right. I enjoyed the long jump and 100m sprint the most because I feel most confident in that area and feel like I do best in those. I learnt to never give up even when things are getting tiring and hard, and at the end of the day you're still a winner even if you didn’t win a ribbon.

Calvin Gillespie- School Captain- 6C:

The event I found the hardest was the shot put  because I’m not used to throwing in that technique. I enjoyed high jump the most because I have a bit of an advantage being tall and because it was a good challenge. I learnt about where my limits were and found my stamina in the running events.
