Meet Our Staff

INTRODUCING... MARVELLOUS MRS. HOUGHTON

Mrs. Houghton is integral to the teaching and learning that takes place at our wonderful school. Having taught in the classroom for many years, she is our school’s P.Y.P. (I.B.) Coordinator and Literacy Specialist.

To learn more about what makes her tick, 5C have interviewed her and composed this profile - we hope you love it!

Mrs. Houghton describes herself as optimistic, resilient and organised… (In fact - we’ve been told that many of the teachers assert that Mrs. Houghton is one of the most organised and hard working people they’ve ever met in their lives!).

Something that makes her happy is watching the change of the seasons.

If Mrs. Houghton was stranded on a deserted island, she would bring her husband, flint and some food.

Having been at M.P.S. for well over two decades (since 1994!), her favourite things about the school are: the students’ thirst for learning, the parents who truly value education, her wonderful colleagues and the school’s adaptability.

Her favourite Units of Inquiry are any that involve S.T.E.M. learning; she adores teaching S.T.E.M. because it’s so open-ended and relies heavily on thinking skills.

When Mrs. Houghton was younger, she wanted to be a nutritionist, but she wasn’t able to access a course for this, due to her location. She realised that there were many teachers in her extended family whom she respected and admired, so this influenced her decision to pursue education. Aren’t we lucky she made that decision!

Did you know… Mrs. Houghton has worked in many different types of factories?! She’s worked in a car, carpet and bread factory and found these experiences really fascinating.

She loves Bon Jovi’s music and quote, “It’s my life, it’s now or never, but I ain’t gonna’ live forever… I just want to live while I’m alive…”.

Thank you to Mrs. Houghton, for your time and for all you do in our school!

INTRODUCING…. WONDERFUL MR. WOOLLAN!

Are you ready for our next 'Meet the Teacher' profile?!

We hope so!

Meet Mr. Woollan, he’s one of the five incredible Prep teachers at M.P.S.

To get to know him better, 5C have interviewed him and put together this profile.

Mr. Woollan describes himself as tall, happy and nice - we think this is a very accurate description, too!

Prep W makes him smile the most and his favourite things about M.P.S. are the students, staff and families, because it’s such a positive community.

Mr. Woollan loves Units of Inquiry - especially ‘How the World Works’, because you are able to explore different materials and you can make things!

He enjoys reading stories to the kids, too, and teaching the Preps new and exciting words.

When he was younger, Mr. Woollan wanted to be a police officer, so that he couldn’t get into trouble if he broke something (hehehe - a lot has obviously changed since then!). He became a teacher because he loves helping people.

Finally, if Mr. Woolan was stranded on a deserted island, he would bring a big book, a solar powered, gigantic, really, super massive fridge full of yummy food… and also his lovely wife.

We hope you enjoyed another ‘Meet the Teacher’ profile… stay tuned for our next amazing teacher!

We wonder if you might be able to guess who is next.

(Thank you Henry, Hayden & Lily, who conducted this interview).
