Frogs! Frogs! Frogs!

NAMING OUR VALUE FROGS

We are sure you’ve already heard the exciting news that Murrumbeena Primary School’s Value Bears have retired!

To replace them, the S.R.C. decided to adopt some new Value Frogs to honour the traditional Indigenous name for Murrumbeena, 'mirrambeena', meaning 'land of frogs' in an Indigenous dialect.

The S.R.C. wanted you guys to come up with name suggestions, so, two weeks ago, Miss Callanan sent out a survey to all of your teachers and parents asking for all of your name suggestions!

We got a staggering 145 responses from the survey… but we could only choose TWO names!

Two weeks ago, the S.R.C. carefully went through all of the name suggestions and noticed that there were a few names that had been suggested many times… We compiled a list of the most popular names and voted on those.

Are you ready to find out the names of our brand new Murrumbeena Value Frogs?

Meet Kero!

Kero is Japanese for the sound that a frog makes, like “ribbit”. We chose Kero to honour the language our school studies, and also because we had many suggestions for 'frog' in other languages! For instance, Ingrid (a parent) suggested a Japanese word for good luck and Mia S. in Year 6 suggested the Dutch word for frog!

We thought that choosing 'Kero' would be a good way to represent our school and to find a compromise between all of those amazing suggestions!

By the way – you can tell this is Kero because he has a little stripe down his face and back! Can you see that?

Our other Val. Frog’s name is Tiddalik!

The name Tiddalik comes from an Aboriginal Dreamtime Story which teaches children about the importance of our environment and sharing. We loved this suggestion because it pays respect to the traditional owners of the land our school is on and the story has beautiful links to our school values.

A HUGE thank you to Jaimie in Year 6, Krudhav in Year 2, Stella, Ashley and Isabelle in Year 3, Anya in Year 6 and parents,  Sarah, Oliver, Carly and Jess who all suggested the name Tiddalik!

Don’t forget that there will be a junior and senior Value Frog awarded each week at assembly!

Remember… classes could win Kero or Tiddalik by demonstrating the four school values in specialist lessons every week.

We can’t wait to see which classes will win our new friends first when we return to school.

How exciting!
