Principal's Report

Welcome back

It has been so nice to welcome back students and families to school this week. The students have settled back into learning very well and are ready for a busy and exciting term ahead.

A reminder that any parents/carers/visitors that enter our school building will be required to wear a mask (unless legally exempt) and will need to sign in with the QR Code (displayed at entrances around the school). If you are coming to volunteer with the students you will also need to sign in at the iPad at the front office.

We have many excursions coming up this term, Bennett Shield begins this week, students have begun practicing for our Showcase, our Wellbeing Day is next week and we have House Athletics (yr 3-6) coming up soon.

I hope that it is a great Term 3 for all of our students.

Spending some time in the classroom

Ms White, our amazing yr 5/6 Japanese teacher, has just completed her last day of work before taking maternity leave. I would like to thank Ms White for the amazing job she does and wish her luck. We look forward to having you back next year teaching Japanese to our 5/6 students.

The 5/6 Japanese classes will be covered by Ms Natasha Weekes and myself. Ms Weekes will take the first 4 sessions of the day and I will be taking the final 2. The classes will have a rotating timetable so the students are able to have a balance in their studies between learning about the history and culture of Japan with Ms Weekes and learning Japanese language in the lessons with me.

It is really exciting as the Principal to have this opportunity to spend a little bit of regular time in the classroom. I am passionate about language learning and the multiple benefits it has for brain development and strengthening the understanding students have of their first language. I was lucky enough to spend time studying at Tokyo University in Japan when I was much younger and have been speaking Japanese (and continually learning) for the last 25 years.

Connecting with students in their classrooms is something I always try to do as much as possible, but my job is often very busy. To have this scheduled time to spend with the 5/6 students is something that I am really looking forward to and I am sure we will have lots of fun together.

2022 Enrolments

Enrolments are now open for 2022 and it would be great to start receiving your enrolment forms for students beginning in Foundation (or at other levels next year). The sooner we receive enrolments, the sooner we can begin planning for next year. Please find the enrolment form below and it can be sent to the school via post (Kalinda Primary School, 39-49 Kalinda Rd, Ringwood 3134) or by email to kalinda.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au
