School Advisory Council

School Advisory Council Update

We held another meeting online on 27 July, which was disappointing but unavoidable. It was great to see most members were able to attend, especially after long days online working from home and everyone was glad to see the children would be returning the following morning.

We welcomed John Corkill from MACS who spoke to the School Advisory Council regarding the changes to Governance structure and provided members with the opportunity to ask any questions. It was great to have John available to explain what the changes mean, especially with respect to going from a Constitution to Terms of Reference. We have already established Terms of Reference for the St Johns School Advisory Council which will be published on the school website shortly.

The building project is almost complete and Verona advised that there was some landscaping and final touches to be done in the next couple of weeks. We are all very thankful that the project has not been delayed too much and welcomed the additional security with the front entrance and new gates. It is also important for parents to be aware that the City of Whitehorse will be installing underground sensors out the front of the school which will designate two minute parking spots. When this is implemented, Verona will advise families.

Verona also advised that a past student offered to design some new graphics to promote the school and this has been done. It raised the point that it would be good to consider other past students or present families that may have skills that could support the school in other ways. If you feel there is something you could assist with, please do not hesitate to contact Verona.

Monica updated us on some additional requirements for Child Safety especially ensuring parents that the Victorian Government QR code does not replace the signing in process for anyone coming into the school.

Our next meeting is in August and hopefully onsite!
