A message from our Principal

Dear Parents

We have had the most wonderful time celebrating NAIDOC week. On Monday we had 80 children participate in the NAIDOC march in William Street and then gather for a BBQ in the park. Our Stage 3 students attended a cultural tour with Jordan Boney and Percy Raveneau. The children had the best time cooking johnny cakes, taking a bush walk and having lunch at the back of Mt Panorama.

On Tuesday we celebrated NAIDOC as a whole school. The day commenced with a whole school assembly, with our girls and boys dance groups performing. We also enjoyed a smoking ceremony which anyone could take part in. Again, a marvellous display of our Aboriginal Culture. For the remainder of the day, children took part in Aboriginal activities in the classrooms, attended talks about artefacts. We also had special guests come into our classrooms to work with the children and staff on Aboriginal languages, art and to tell us stories.

A heartfelt thankyou to our organising group, Mrs Cafe, Mrs George, Miss Carr, Mr Hayes, Mrs Abbott and Mrs Goninan who coordinated a magnificent celebration. A special thankyou to the many parents and friends who came to support our children and staff and made all of our experiences so much richer - Jordan Boney, Tonilee Scott, Vanessa Kendall, Josh Simpson, Brooke Andrews, Selina Sullivan, Tambelin Howarth and Julie Bennett. Thankyou all.

On Friday 16th September, 20 of our children represented Bathurst Public School and Bathurst District PSSA at the Regional Athletics Trials in Dubbo. All of our children competed extremely well with many throwing and running personal bests. Well done everyone. A special congratulations to Tim Lynch who came 2nd in the Senior Boys Discus and our Senior Girls Relay team, consisting of Ruby Cole, Lara Glasgow, Grace Ronan and Sophie Francis, who came 3rd in the Senior Girls Relay. All of these athletes have qualified to attend the NSW PSSA Athletics Carnival in Homebush next term. Terrific work.
