Welcome back and a reminder

Wow, Term 4 already!  It is so great to be back at school and to see the weather improving. Boy, does it make a difference when the sun comes out!

I have been impressed to see how the children have settled into class routines quickly and are engaging in some excellent learning.  There is so much to look forward to this term with camps, incursions, excursions, sleepovers, Year 6 Graduation and of course the Christmas Concert.

As it is Term 4, please remember that all children are expected to wear their hats when outdoors.  Please make sure that hats are labelled.  If you have a spare hat, leaving one at school is a good idea.

National Mental Health Month

October is National Mental Health Month.  According to the World Health Organisation, mental health is ‘a state of well-being in which every individual realises their own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and are able to make a contribution to their community (Parliament of Australia 2022, https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/rp/rp1819/Quick_Guides/MentalHealth#:~:text=Introduction,to%20her%20or%20his%20community, Accessed 6/10/2022).

Last night, Cheyenne and I were privileged to attend the premiere screening of a documentary called ‘How To Thrive’ at Eastland.  This documentary is for adults and tracks the journeys of individuals in Melbourne living with significant mental health issues, who participated in a three-month Positive Psychology program.  The outcomes were extraordinary.

This film will be showing in mainstream cinemas in the coming weeks.  If you are curious about the science of happiness and the impact that Positive Psychology techniques can have, we encourage you to look it up.

At Croydon Hills we proudly embed Positive Psychology practices such as gratitude, kindness and character strengths into our way of being.  If you would like to explore more so that you can have conversations at home, please click on the links below.
