Junior School

The Junior School students are enjoying being back at school this term – we hope for some fine weather as there are LOTS of things on the calendar! Thank you in advance to all of the parents who bare with us as the calendar is stretched this term – particularly after two COVID-19 affected years where we couldn’t do all that we usually do – school life has gotten so busy! Some things were also pushed back into Term 4 due to poor weather this year. We will have a wonderful time with our remaining excursions and concerts, and particularly our camps.

As I write, Stage 2 students are enjoying Bungawarra. This resource is an incredible place for our students. Wednesday was my first visit, along with Year 2 who travelled there for the day. Year 2 and Stage 2, and all of the teachers, spent time playing at the river and exploring. The learning that happened during that play was superb – taking children out of classrooms and into the wild is so great for learning, wellbeing and relationships. That’s why teachers are willing to climb ‘Horror Hill’ and sleep in tents!

On Tuesday at Wentworth Falls, we hosted our annual “Stay and Play” day for our new Early Years students. It was wonderful to see our new students for next year make friends and find out what happens at our school. It was also lovely talking to parents about the things we are passionate about here at Grammar, and to see those new parents nodding, already feeling a part of this community. I look forward to hosting new students at our Springwood campus on Thursday of next week.

Later in the term we have a Fun Run in the Junior School which children from both campuses are attending. I am so thankful for the support of our P&F. New air conditioning has recently been installed at Wentworth Falls, all through the efforts of parents and friends who volunteer and raise money for the school. I invite all parents to consider if they can be involved in a P&F event next year to help support the Junior School – we can’t do without it!

Term 4 - Week 2

The BMGS Swish played the Warriors on Monday, 17th of October. Due to playing a less experienced team, the score went up quickly in the first half. Dillon challenged the team to have everybody score. By the second half, mercy rules were enforced. Reducing the Swish defence to behind half way, with steals and blocks being called a foul, finally gave the opposition the opportunity to score a couple of baskets.

The challenge to have everybody score was all but given up with ten seconds left and only one player left to score. The ball was called for and dribbled all the way down the court. The layup was missed but the rebound was caught and goal scored with three seconds left, completing the challenge and winning 42-4.

On Tuesday, 18th of October, the BMGS Slam Dunks played the Vipers. They were playing against 15 year old experienced players and did an awesome job at being able to get some solid points on the board. Once again, the opposition were accommodating and applied mercy rule, which allowed the girls to get the ball into their own half. The team has a well-earned Bye next week and we look forward to monitoring their progress at the next game. The Vipers won 49-21.

On Tuesday, 11th October the BMGS Stars had yet another nail-biting game. The opposition were well-matched and the score only went up in small increments for both teams. There was a lot of great defending and some awesome turn overs which resulted in points for us. It was great to see some solid passing in the key, which resulted in some more goals. In the last two minutes of the game, we managed to stretch the lead out by 2 goals, which gave us a win at 18-14.
