From the Head of Sport

This week we have the Girl’s Basketball games at home and everybody else is away. Please remember that you are representing the school and your dress must reflect that. All non-school gear will be confiscated so the best thing to do is leave it at home.

Congratulations - Orienteering

The Australian Schools Orienteering Championships were held in Central Victoria in the school holidays as part of the Australian Championships carnival. The NSW team included Oliver (Senior Boys 16+) and Alton (Junior Boys – up to 15) Freeman. They recalled the tuneful team bus rides to and from events and the camping with all the other teams as some of most memorable moments. NZ teams from both North and South Islands also competed against all the Australian states in three events: Bush Race, Urban Sprint race and Relays. Oliver placed 34th/50 in the Sprint and 21st in the Bush event (13th Australian).  Alton placed 22nd/55 in the Sprint and 8th in the Bush event (4th Australian). Overall the NSW team were victorious, retaining a trophy last contested in 2019.

The photos above are of Oliver Freeman in the Sprint race, Alton Freeman in the Bush race, and the NSW team with a 96-year-old man competing in the Australian Championships.

Cricket

With this year’s Cricket competition being a 20/20 competition, we are hoping to encourage anyone interested in giving the game a try to see either me or Mr Collins.

If you already play summer sport however are interested in helping out on home days please come and see me to have your name added to the reserve list for one of our home weekends.

If you play cricket outside the school and have a Bye round this term please come and see me so that you can be added to our team for your free weekend. All extra help to keep BMGS Cricket going is greatly appreciated.

Tennis

Are you interested in helping the Tennis team out on occasions to make up numbers. Is your Saturday sport cancelled due to rain. If you would like to go on the reserve list for tennis please email Mrs Van Gelderen on cvangelderen@bmgs.nsw.edu.au

Buses

There was some confusion last term regarding bus drop off and pick up. If your bus starts at Blackheath then it will return to Blackheath. The earliest bus of the day will start at Blackheath and is available to bring any players who require a lift to BMGS. Please ensure when you get off at BMGS that you get onto the correct bus for your sport.

National Schools Basketball

All students who have been selected to attend the National Schools' Basketball Tournament on the Gold Coast need to RSVP yes/no to the permission slip that was sent out last week. This must be completed by Friday, 21st October.

Sports Uniforms

All uniforms are now available in the Uniform Shop. Please remember that the uniform shop is only open on a Monday and Tuesday during School hours.
