Principal's Report

Things are looking pretty spiffy in our Grade 1 classrooms with a recent upgrades to student tables and chairs.  We can tell you that our students are pretty excited and so are our teachers! Our Furnware furniture has been designed in consultation with Occupational Therapists for the best possible flexible support for growing children’s bodies.  This is the best option available for our students, which is why we have chosen to outfit our school in this way.  With your ongoing support via parent payments and donations to our building fund we are able to continue to fund new furniture for all of our classrooms and students.  We’d love to continue to upgrade all classrooms over the next year and with your support in this area we can!

World Teacher’s Day

On behalf of Marianne and myself a huge thank you to our Teachers for all the work that they do. Every day, each of our teachers are supporting children and young people by improving student outcomes and shaping their lives for future success.

World Teachers' Day is being celebrated this Friday, 28th October. The day is a great opportunity for everyone to recognise and appreciate teachers and the important role they play in shaping the next generation. As we all know, teachers matter! They do an amazing job and World Teachers' Day is a most worthy occasion to acknowledge the work of our teachers.

Our teachers have shown great resilience during challenging times, all so they can give Australian students the best future possible.

Hats off to teachers this World Teachers’ Day!

It is such an important job! We thank and honour all BPS teachers.

STUDENT FREE DAY

A reminder as previously communicated we have student free day coming up on Monday 31st October. Teachers will be utilising this day to make final preparations for student reporting and the upcoming term ahead to ensure that students are well supported. The day will also provide an opportunity for them to work on student reporting for Semester Two and ensure that we are positioned well to provide and support all learners. TheirCare will be offering a program on this day and will communicate this through to families shortly.

Ex-Students

Ever wonder what happens to those lovely Grade 6 students about 6 years after they have left our care?  Well, apparently they still get dressed up in their old school uniforms.  I can't believe they still fit!  Marianne, received this charming photo from some ex-BPS students (class of 2016) who are now completing their Year 12 at Blackburn High School.  Good luck to them all with their exams.   Current Grade 6s, take note: these are your buddies all grown up!

2023 STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Our Year 5/6 team are currently working on the selection process for our 2023 Student Leadership positions. We are encouraging all Year 5 students to apply for these positions of responsibility. In 2023 we are looking for students to display a desire to represent our school as an overall leader, displaying the range of leadership characteristics, role-modelling and encompassing our school values. As part of this process our 26  Student Leaders will be selected to represent all students, hearing student and staff voice as part of the process. Roles of responsibility will then be allocated to 26 students based on the above criteria, allowing them to lead our school in each of the associated areas. Year 5 students who wish to nominate themselves for a leadership position will receive further details about this process from their classroom teacher.

CYBERSAFETY PROJECT - UPCOMING PARENT WEBINARS

I thought our school’s families might be interested in this! Cyber Safety Project are running free webinars for families over the coming months. Some timely topics, including cyber security for families and online gaming.

They are designed for the whole family to join in together, with kids involved too.

HATS AND DRINK BOTTLES

With the warm weather about to start, it is vital that all students wear their school, SunSmart hat when outside. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to sit in the shade, under the amphitheatre. Students should also be drinking water regularly and taking breaks from play if they are getting too hot.

STUDENTS LEAVING BPS

As much as this would sadden us, we know that many families might have a change in circumstances in 2023. To support our forward planning, we would really appreciate knowledge of any student/s that might be leaving BPS at the end of 2022. This does not include our Year 6 students, who we know will be graduating. Please email the school office on blackburn.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au to inform us.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENT EVENTS

For any of our future students we invite you to come and join us for one of our upcoming sessions. Please contact the office to make a booking.
