YEAR 8 CAMP
YEAR 8 CAMP
The 2023, year 8 camp began with forty-three students and five staff leaving on a cold morning from Korumburra. Arriving at the Waratah Bay Beach Camp, students were looking forward to participating in a number of activities, seeing who they would be doing activities with, work together in their duty groups, as well as who they would be bunking with.
On our first afternoon at the camp, students took on a low ropes course, solving a treasure map task, some gaga ball, and into teams to cross a shark invested Amazon river. While all students participated and enjoyed these activities, the students were looking forward to their turn on the giant rope swing. While there were those who were keen to hop on, it was great to see most students and all staff, give the giant rope swing a go. The afternoon’s activities ended, and students enjoyed a lovely roast dinner and watched a movie to end day one.
Day two of the camp saw students looking forward to a number of activities. These included some team initiatives, aeroball, rock climbing, and the most anticipated activity: surfing at the beach at Waratah Bay. The weather was fantastic for us this day, with the instructors commenting that the weather had been the best in recent times. It was also great to see so many of our students enjoying the water, with many standing up on their surfboards. Those who were not able to participate in the surfing, explored the shore, finding several items including the remains of a leafy sea dragon. The day finished with a guided night walk after dinner, followed by some downtime toasting marshmallows around the campfire.
The last day of camp saw each of our four teams competing in different events on the beach. These activities included tug of war and sand sculptures, followed by a number of various activities to round out our time at the Waratah Bay Beach Camp. It was a pleasure for us all to be able to hang out together in a different environment, and great to see the students interacting with each other in such a positive way.
