IDAHOBIT DAY

IDAHOBIT

Our Respectful Relationships program is a school-wide initiative. This means that we live and breathe Respectful Relationships in everything we do. Last week, our Student Diversity Group chose to recognise IDAHOBIT day (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia) by increasing awareness of the day. Members of the group chose to give away stickers and bracelets to any interested students at lunch. Recognising IDAHOBIT Day is one way we can support LGBTQI+ members of our school community by taking a stand against discrimination. It’s not only members of the queer community who can participate in IDAHOBIT day; Allies (people who are anti-discrimination) can stand with their friends and colleagues to support a world where everyone has equal rights.

Our Respectful Relationship program includes a curriculum component. This is delivered in both ACE and Health classes. At the moment, students in Like Minds are recognising and celebrating each other’s personal strengths, and are thinking about how we can use these strengths to solve problems and cope with difficult situations. Our Year 12s have been taking a deep-dive into rigid gender stereotypes, discussing how they are enforced and how this may make people feel.

The goal of Respectful Relationships is to eliminate gender-based violence. If you would like to know more about this, please attend our community forum on Monday 5th June, 7.30pm at the Anglican Church Hall. Here, we are meeting with a range of community groups to request their support in making changes around our community to take steps to eliminate gender-based violence from our lives. There are easy things we can all do to make our community safe for everyone.
