Learner Profile Attribute: Thinkers

For the month of June we are focusing on being, “Thinkers”.

This means that we use critical thining skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned and ethical decisions.

Students who are THINKERS work to solve problems independently. They can imagine many solutions to a question or challenge. Thinkers make good decisions and can predict the outcomes of their actions. They think creatively and critically.

How can parents help to develop students who are ‘Thinkers’ at home?

You can encourage your child to think of all the different solutions to a problem.

Pose real life problems and questions to your child: “I’m not sure how to arrange the glasses so they can all fit in the cupboard? “I wonder how much this shopping will cost; can we make an estimate?

You can make your child critically think about different and real-life issues.

While you are discussing an issue, it would be beneficial to ask such kinds of questions to your child:

  • Do you have an idea about how to start?
  • How can we do that in a different way?
  • I have never thought of that way before, can you explain it more?
  • What other ways can we show that?
  • How did you figure it out?
  • Why do you think that?
